ECU Failure
My dealer says that my HM ECU is toasted.
Any of you with the same problem?

That's what happened to mine a couple of months ago. My symptoms were stalling and erratic idle. The problem got worse in the hot weather. They replaced the ECU and it ran fine for about 2 months. Now it's doing the same thing. I have to bring it back next week.

Can you define the erratic idle you're referring to? My bike seems to idle up and down by 100 rpms or so even once warmed up

100 RPM is nothing. Mine was erratic like 400 RPM. It would bounce from 850-1300 and sometimes stall. It didn't matter if the engine was warm or cold. It even stalled when I pulled in the clutch as I went through an intersection. It was becoming a big safety concern to me.

Not having the idle issues but, pull in the clutch sometimes and it dies. Has 120 miles.
Idles at 1250-1300.

I'm quickly losing trust in my bike's reliability now that the problem has returned. I'd hate to sell the bike but if this isn't fixed this time and the problem returns, I'm going back to a Japanese bike.

Recently had the ECU on mine replaced under warranty. Bike was running fine and then started it up one day and made it to the end of the block before the bike spluttered and died. Went through the whole gamut checking fuel, battery, push-start, but no luck. After an hour or so, tried starting it again and it'd kick over and run for about 30 secs before cutting out again repeatedly. The dealer experienced similar symptoms and spent 2 days troubleshooting the problem and it finally came down to the ECU. Took a week to get the replacement shipped over and it's running great now.

Mark, you may want to have your dealer test your air temp sensor. Its located under the front fender/headlight cover. This may be the root cause of your ECU problems.
