Please Seal Your Subframe ends

After spending a good whole afternoon washing my bike for the first time since I got the bike, I was freaking out the next day after my ride.

I found dried rust water, lots of it, that had trickled along my silencer.

I couldn't figure out at first where it came from but realized it came out of my 4 opening at the end of the subframe.

Overnight the water that had entered from washing, and possibly wet rides had gotten in, more in my case as I use a DP luggage rack (it moves the plastic bit that bolts the rearlight, further away from the ends of the subframe end holes)

It had apparently come out while I did my wheelies. For those who are not a retard like me, I have no idea how you would remove any water if any already accumulated before sealing.

You'd think a maker like DUCATI would not try and save fifty cents and leave a subframe needing replacement after a couple of years from RUST

Would drilling a tiny hole at the bottom bit of the subframe help water flow out THEN seal the top (and bottom) with a cap or silicon?

Try out some of the new wipe down products instead. If you wipe it after every ride there is no reason to get out the hose. I give my bike a light wipe down w/ WD40, Plastic Cleaner and Cleaning Wipes after each ride and then do a HUGE cleaning every month or so. The only water to ever touch my Hyper was that rainy day w/ Tamir, Alex & Sparks.

The subframe supposed to be aluminum, therefore they don't rust.

No, you can buy aftermarkte aluminium subframes but the stock one is steel, very poorly welded steel at that.

pretty sure some nice plastic (bogus plastic) plugs could be found for this purpose.

Yeah, You can find plugs at a good mom & pop hardware store. ACE, or True Value have all those bolt bins with odd ball stuff. Lowes & Home Depot are less likely to have these. I'll also pick up "bung-hole" plugs.....LOL

Good idea....
