Quick Break In Observations

Well had my Hyper standard for a little under a week and I've been able to put right around 300 miles on it thus far.Now I'm no road racer or anything of that sort but I've ridden bikes for 30+ years though mostly of the dirt variety but here's my take of what I've noticed as I'm getting some saddle time on it.

Shifting is notchy. Not in a bad way mind ya as it's a very positive shifter and I have no issues with finding neutral while stopped or anything. It reminds me of the early 70s Yamaha YZs for those with a dirt background.

Rear brake is sorta soft but in reality it's a non-issue for me as I do most of my braking with the front and boy I like it.The front has a nice feel and will stop you on a dime. For those talented or daring folks I'm thinking stoppies would be a cinch.

Clutch pull isn't bad for a dry clutch.Overall I'm ok will the pull and workings of it.I heard from some folks how stiff the Duc dry clutches can be but not an issue in my book.

Gearing is tall no doubt but in reality from the way the engine likes to run 4000rpm and up this bike is never gonna be a lug it around at a slow pace kind of ride anyways so I'm not sure I'll bother with regearing it.

This motor rocks. It pulls and pulls and I can't wait till I can open it up as it's got a great pull in the 4-6000rpm range in any gear.Again for the talented and daring I imagine wheelies are a piece of cake.Myself I'll leave the wheelies to my offroad rides. You can't help but get the front end light power kind where the front end is barely off the ground variety though.

Overall the Hyper begs to be ridden hard and wants to get up and go and definitely is not geared toward keeping ones driving record clean but hell it's fun! It handles great and is a ton of fun to ride and if you've got any motorcycling experience it makes you feel very safe and comfortable as it's very easy to maneuveur and stops on a dime.

I'm very happy thus far with my decision to add the Hyper as my second just "pure fun" ride.

I think you're pretty much spot on.

The transmission will loosen up a bit and clutch engagement will become smoother with some more miles.

Clutch lever pull is fine, but if you start running a shorty lever, you may want a different slave cylinder.

Thanks for the heads up.I'm looking forward to putting on some miles and see how things wear in.

I've got no issues with the trans as is,it's just that if you're use to slick shifting motocross bikes like I am the notchy shifting is noticable but like I said it's a very positive shift engagement and neutral is no sweat.

Stock levers, handlebars, grips and handguards are all fine by me.

I'm gonna mess with the suspension settings going forward as the forks feel a tad stiff to me.I'm only 155lbs so perhaps I'm not the target weight that the suspension comes stock for.Again it's no big deal as is but I'm always open to try to make it more compliant by tweaking the settings.

I really like the tranny on the Hyper. It's not the ultra smooth snick snick variety like my CBR but it has a very tight feel to it and is more than smooth enough. That was one of the things that I was pleasantly surprised about the Hyper. I didn't expect the tranny to be so smooth and refined. Nowhere as notchy as my other dry clutched bike, R1150R. In fairness to the BMW, it does have an automotive tranny and clutch.

Has it quit on you yet. Mine will sometimes die if I pull in the clutch while riding.

I've got 80 miles on mine.

Happens occasionally on a cold engine, otherwise no engine cut-outs so far once it's warmed up and running. Helps to start it up before donning your gloves and helmet to give it a minute or so to 'wake-up' when you first ride out. (Remember to pull in the clutch and make sure the bike's in neutral!)
