Touchy Throttle ---> Smooooth Throttle

So I removed the throttle tube, cables, brake and handguard to slide a basic mount down the handlebar for my Quest 2 GPS. Upon reassembling the throttle I noticed that it had an easier twist and seemed not to require as much effort to turn it. I got a bit worried that I may have installed the two cables in reverse because there was now a slight twisted look to the cables which I hadn't notice before.

Anyways, I went out for a ride to try out the GPS through town and this was when I noticed that the throttle felt MUCH MORE CONTROLLED and smooth and it no longer had the herky-jerkiness going on and off throttle driving around town. Before it seemed to act more like on-off then gradual power when you started to twist it, so I had to be extremely careful. Having never owned a Ducati before I assumed this might just be how they run.

OK, this is the other thing I noticed, before the throttle reassembly the bike used to make a gurgle and some slight popping sounds under heavy engine braking (actually thought it sounded cool) and also seemed to have alot more aggressive braking off-throttle - This is gone now too!

I'm wondering, has anyone else reversed their cable leads at the handlebars and noticed a big difference?

I'm not even 100% sure I messed up the reinstall, but I think its entirely possible the dealer could have installed it backwards prior to delivery. It feels like night and day to me from before!

sounds to me like you've shortened the open cable to the throttle bodies and its not returning to 0 when letting go, this would mean you're not shutting it down as much as you think. I'd guess tho you'd notice that it idles higher.

It idles at exactly the same speed. Its just the power-on is much more gradual now, still able to open it all the way up but just not at 1/4 turn like before. I'm just wondering if anyone who had the abrupt throttle problems that some were reporting ever tried to switch the cable ends around and it fixed the problem, because it certainly made my experience alot better.

i pull the slack out of my throttle cable with every new bike. It makes a huge difference ... which provides a similar outcome.

Then maybe I just freed something up in the process of taking it apart and putting it back together... my right hand used to cramp up just holding the throttle open before - now this twin really feels precise!

How much play is suppose to be in the throttle? I was going to take some out of mine since it seems a little excessive, my father claims a EFI bike is suppose to have a lot, I don't buy it. I probably have about 10-20 degrees of free play.

I adjust all my throttle cables to have almost no freeplay at all. But you must make sure that in turning the bars from lock to lock that the outer cables do not become fouled/stretched etc otherwise the engine speed will increase.

hmmmm, some interesting points in this thread. My previous bike was a Gixxer-6 with a quick action throttle and geared down -1 on the front, 1st was twitchy but I learnt to smooth it out so I was amased at how twitchy the Hyper is !... Sitting at the lights today I was playing with the throttle and noticed the free-play and I think this is making a huge difference, so maybe you did just take up some of the slack. I am gonna titen mine and see what happens.
