Pressure plate causing slippage??

So I had new rubber put on last weekend and treated myself to a new aftermarket pressure plate while there. They installed the pressure plate but didnt do anything else. I rode her today and the clutch seems like it is not engaging as with the stock pressure plate. I made it home okay and the dealer is only 4 blocks away but at a stoplight I could actually smell the clutch burning. My question for you all is, should they have done some adjusting or bleeding with the new pressure plate? The springs are stock but I dont think that would be a problem. I just wanted to ask on here b4 the dealer tries to b.s. me. Thanks...

You don't have to bleed the line or anything else due to the installation of the new pressure plate - you may have needed to regardless of the plate though? There is a certain way that the pressure plate goes on - there are alignment marks. Are the springs tightened properly?

I'm not really sure how the install would get botched though - it is quite possibly the easiest job to do. Maybe it is something else that just happened to occur at the same time as the new plate being installed?

It is weird because the bike only has 7300klms on it and and I dont abuse the clutch. The rpm's shoot up a second before any power is transferred to the rear wheel.

Sounds to me like your dealer either hasn't lined up the mark on the pressure plate with the slotted post on your clutch, or not tightened up the springs properly.

The 1st error would prevent the teeth on the back of the pressure plate properly engaging with the teeth on the clutch, thus causing slippage.

The second would result in slippage too. They should be tightened to 5nm or if your torque wrench doesn't go down that low, fully in, then another 1/8th or so of a turn.

Worth checking both, will only take 10 mins.

Edit: just a thought, you didn't buy a pressure plate meant for a slipper clutch did you, I think they're different (I'm not 100% sure on that so willing to be corrected! )

I'll toss in my two cents.

When the surface of the pressure plate is brand new but your clutch plates have a nice bite to them, there will be some initial slippage until the new plates' surface is also the same (and the anodizing gets scraped off).

If it's really exceptional slippage then it's probably something else.

All taken care of guys, thanx for all the replies. Yes, the "dot" on the back of the pressure plate has to line up with the post with the slot on it. Works as it should now. Even the dealer learned something new.

That is scary right there! How long has Ducati been using dry clutches? And I am sure that blingy pressure plates have been used almost as long. All while your dealer never learned how to install one? I'd be leary come valve adjustment time.

I am glad you got it figured out though.
