Me or the Bike?
In a rush I started up the bike and took off from work in the parking garage. The bike dies as I'm going down the ramp. I hit the starter (I'm still rolling) and it begins this oscillating idle at nearly 300-400 RPM. I give it a little gas and it dies. I hit the starter again and same idle problem. But this time I just stop. It sounds as if one cylinder is firing. I give it a bit of throttle and it dies. Hit the starter once more and she idles fine. I take off and no other problems since.
Has anyone had this happen before?
Did I just do everything a bit too quickly for the ECU to figure out throttle position, air, etc?
Normally I let her run about 30 seconds plus before taking off. Then again, I'm usually not late for dinner!

Check that your battery cables are tight.

My first hyper would idle very high around 3-4000, but was it got warmed up it went back to the proper 1200 and was fine after that. It never died like yours.
Now, the new one I gave the throttle a little twist up to 4000 and the thing died on my, but I am hoping its just a new bike thing and will play itself out. Oh, it did when the bike was completely warmed up as well.

My hyper won't idle when I first start it I have to hold the throttle open a touch until it warms. If I let it come down in RPM, it will die. I have never had a problem starting right back up though.

I had a WR 400 a while back and two things would happen when I started it: When starting from cold I'd use full choke but couldn't touch the throttle without it dying in the arse or I could start it with no choke at all and hold the throttle open a little bit.
Maybe your bike is like that, a little touchy on the fast idle circuit until it warms properly?

None of the symptoms you guys are describing should be considered "normal".
Sounds like improper set-up to me. If your battery cables are tight, addition items to look at include:
1) TPS reset
2) Throttle Body Synch.,
3) Fuel trim adjustment if you have non-stock ECU; and
3) If you still have snatchy off- to on-throttle, then perhaps the idle speed screw needs to be cracked open a bit more (then repeat 1 & 2)

I agree with BillyD, this is not normal. With the advent of the computerized bikes we now ride there is something not properly tuned if you are having these issues. Its a matter of putting on a Dyno most likely and getting everything adjusted properly as long as you have already checked the little things like battery cable connections, fuses etc. I would take it in under warranty and have the dealer take a look.

that is why you have that nice warranty. Let them worry about it.
