Back but I was never really gone I guess.....

Well boys/girls as many may have known I was going to sell the HM and convert to the 1098 but the plan has changed. For some odd reason I couldn't sell the Hyper for what I thought was a fair price and I refuse to bend over and pass the vasoline jar so its staying + I actually really enjoy the bike so that made it harder to give it away. The 1098 is now in the process of a pending sale so with any luck it has found a new home. Wish I could keep both but right now its not an option and a waste really.

Anyway what I kind of started this thread for was to get on the soap box for a minute. I'm amazed that after trying to sell the HM how little interest there was in it. Sure I had some low ball offers and such but I felt that I was offering it at a fair price and I didn't even get a reasonable counter offer. I realize it is a smaller niche market bike but if people would actually go out and ride one they would realize how friggin fun it is and the performance it brings to the table. I have no regrets at having to keep it over the 1098 now and actually think it will turn out to be the better move. I got the 1098 for a good deal and couldn't pass it up really and it showed because I posted the 1098 for sale locally and it was sold within 24 hours and I made a few bucks. I guess it was like riding it for a month for free, so I can't complain. It is also a very nice bike but not nice enough I guess that I was willing to dump the HM at all costs to keep the 1098 because I refused to do that. I do like the Brembo Mono-blocks and I think having a steering damper made it noticeably less twitchy then the HM. (I might have to get one for the HM.)

Anyway I'll be hangin with you tardo's for a bit longer which is cool because this part of MS is the best anyway. Happy Trails.......

I also agree that a lot more people would have the HM's if they would just give them a chance a test ride them. I just wish I would have found out how fun this bike is before I wasted so much money on other bikes.

I felt the same way about my Honda Superhawk. It was an awesome bike but no one gave a rat's ass about them and that made it worthless when I went to sell it. Unfortunately I wanted the Hyper so bad I didn't care and let it go cheap. Now I'll probably suffer the same problem when I go to sell the Hyp.

I feel for some reason the hyper will be one of those bikes I will keep around for a very long time ( unless this one gets stolen ). I am a younger guy and didn't ride growing up, so this question is for the seasoned riders. Out of all the bikes you have ever owned, have you had anything as fun and as addicting as this bike ? I try to think about the future but can not come up with anything else that could top this bike.

The only thing that would come close out of the 30 Jappers and 6 Italian bikes I have owned over 34 years, was the Yamaha RD350LC, I ended up owning two.

Like the Hyper, it wasn't fast in outright speed or acceleration, but compared with the so called 'performance' bikes of the day it was so much fun, and so easy to ride fast in tight situations. Why? Because it was light, nimble, turned, stopped, great power band, and wheelied, and cornered, and stopped, and wheelied, and...... #%$* it was fun .

I can tell you that after having a chance to ride the 1098 now back to back with the Hype its really that both are just a different kind of ride. The superbikes today are incredible machines but the power is truly not taylored to street use. (Theres too much of it) It is still fun but just different and takes more constraint on the street. The Hype is more tame in ways yet has a wild side available that can seem to get you in more trouble if you want to bring it out. Where as the superbike is just kind of the wild child all the time really. The other thing I noticed is that people including law enforcement barely pay attention to the Hype where when they see the superbike they automatically seem to think that guys driving like an ass I'm sure. The hype is kind of ingonito which is a good thing because we all know its actually more of a trouble maker then the superbike is in the wrong or right hands depending how you look at it. Anyway glad to hear you are back in the saddle again Ferrell....

Amazing, I didn't own one but worked at a Yamaha shop back in the day . I would have said the RD400 for the very same reasons.

It's so funny you guys are talking about the old RD's. Before I even read your responses, the first bike I thought of was my '84 RZ350!

I didn't spend much time riding it on the street, since I bought it to race (I won two class championships with it!), but I can see how it would have been a hoot to ride around, just like the Hyper.

Boy, did I give some big-bore superbikes FITS with that little bugger!
