Larger Rear Tire

The service rep at Motoworks told me he is running at 190/50 on a 6" BST with good results. He says it looks like you could go to a 190/55 and still have clearance with a 6" rim.

Anyone else have any experience with going with a larger rear tire?

Going wider adds rotating weight, the best reason to go wider is to get a rounder profile for better turn in. You will increase it slightly going from 180/55 to 190/55. But I wouldn't go a 190/50.

Has anyone tried a 190/55? It should clear but I'd like to learn from anyone else's experience with this size tire.

hmmm...could it be because he wants to sell you the 6" BST's?

Why go to a wider tire?

Everytime I've gone to a 190, I've been sadly disappointed by too much flex. On this bike, especially, there's no reason to go to a 190 - except to have a bigger tire than someone else.

When three people tell you to lie down, you're drunk.

I'm sticking with the stock rubber.

Thanks all

I like that one. I might use it.

I just found it weird that someone would spend around USD4000 on a set of lightweight wheels and then cancel that out by adding extra weight in rubber. Tyre weight has a big impact as its inertia point is alot alot further out than the inertia point of the rims.

It's not a CLEARANCE issue. It's the actual SIZE of the tire on the rim. The rim will pull the beads of the tire closer together than they were intended, which will distort the profile of the tire. Shit, a 200 would probably have clearance back there, but, you'd end up with a tire so tall and and steep - you'd have chicken strips 3 inches wide...

I was wondering too simply because I have a pilot power 190/55 that I was going to use on my previous bike. Then I wrecked the previous bike...
