first hyper dance. rear brake?
Does the rear brake suck on all HM's?
It came to the attention of an acquaintance that I was in the market. He's going through a d.i.v.o.r.ce and needs to sell three month old standard fast. He gave me free reign on some of our better NC mountain roads today. It's official...I'm hooked!
I'm in the habit of setting up entry points with the assistance of the rear brake. This one did absolutely nothin'! Bike is new as of March 08 and has about 3k on the clock.
So whats up?

change her often...
I had to change the rear pads at 4000mi, as I'm hard on the rear brake,
just install fresh pads, and maybe bleed the system, and everything should
be fine, as the Hyper's rear brakes work great! Aloha Alex

Historically, Ducati rear brakes suck in general.
However, the Hyper is a definite exception to the rule. If the one you rode didn't have a very strong rear brake, there's something wrong with it...

The only way to fix the soft rear brake is to pull the rear caliper and raise it above the master cylinder and bleed it from there. You cannot get the air out otherwise (I tried everything from hand bledding, MityVac, syringe pushing fluid up). I wrapped the caliper with a cloth and hung it from my subframe with a small bungee cord when I bled it. You will have to pull the header pipe, cat, heat shield below the swingarm, and the guard that covers the brake line along the bottom side of the swingarm.
I did mine this way when I swapped out the reservoirs for the Rizomas. Takes some time, but worth it. It is now tighter than a gnats ass stretched over a rain barrel. 100%better and works like a champ.
Out!

My rear squeals really loud just before coming to a stop. Does not squeal at all otherwise. What's up with that? Also the rear disc gets very hot to the touch, is this normal?

I'd recommend bleeding both the front and rear brakes. For some reason they come from the factory in less than optimum condition. My dealer did it as part of the first service (no extra charge). Made a huge difference.

I had to adjust the rear brake linkage as mine came from the factory is such a condition that the rear brake lever would reach the end of it's travel before it would engage the rear brake. My bike had 0.0 miles on it when I picked it up from the dealer, so obviously they did not test ride it before they turned it over to me. Try lengthening the actuator rod and see if that helps.

The loud squeal, the heat, or both?
