200+ pounders: suspension setup

what are other 200+ pounders doing for their suspension setup. So, far I removed two turns of preload up front and took out almost all of the compression. In the rear, I added 2 1/2 turns of sag and all but 1/2 turn of compression.

It seems that the bike stock to me is real stiff up front and soft in the rear.

ok, how about 180+ pounders. I only weigh about 210. It is not like I am 260 or anything.

Fat ass................................just kidding

I weigh more than you!! Although, few would call me fat.

I just screw around with it(suspension) on the same road by the house over and over till it rides better. Same curve, same speed...add a click, add another...opps, that felt funny...back off.

You guys are light weights!! I'm 215, I thought the suspension feels real good on my bike in stock form. I do notice that it dips a little much when i brake hard.

Whether you are 150 or 250 pounds, the best $50 you will ever spend will be to find a local suspension tuner who can set it up for you. Talk to some of the local road racers and see who they use.

BTW, I have no financial interest in any suspension shop. I just learn many moons ago that I consistently mis-diagnose handling issues and make the wrong adjustments. And, I submit to you, that anyone asking questions on how to set up suspension on a forum like this are likely in exactly the same boat.

Hey billyD, who do you use? We live in the same neck of the woods.

I am not sure I am following the added 2.5 turns of sag. But for what it is worth, here is a detailed thread on my suspension setup and I am about 225 w/ full gear. In my opinion, it needed more preload all the way around, then soften the compression and slow the rebound.

A completely different bike with these settings shown in this post. I did tweak the compression and rebound a bit more since the last post in this thread.

Out!

I used Lindemann Engineering in Campbell. Jim is the owner and is the guy who was doing set-up at Ducati Day in La Honda. He's been around for a 1,000 years and seems to be very popular with the AFM roadracers. As such, I decided to go to him rather than my usual dirt bike suspension guy for the HM.
