buying chris410's HYM, advice?
I am going to ride from DC to Charleston, SC via Charlottesville VA, and then through Durham, NC. Haven't been on a hyper for more than a few minutes and realize it isn't a highway bike, but aside from that, any advice on what to take with me on a 500-600 mile ride on my "new-to-me" Hyper??

Take your time and stop to rest......enjoy the ride. If you are running some high speed sections for long distance your arms and inner thighs might get a little tired. Yes, my legs get more tired than anything. Not so much now that I am used to it, but anything over 85 mph, you get alot of wind on the legs too.
Make sure you don't pass up too many gas stations as fuel mileage is around 100 miles +/- per tank. Also, you might want to take a small backpack or fanny pack to carry some tools and snacks and a bottle of water in.
You are gonna love your bike. That this is set up nice too. Have fun!
Out!

Bring it back in a truck...or tape a big pillow to your ass. If you ride it home, at very least make sure you are wearing bicycle shorts. Your phyxter will appreciate it.

PITA, literally!
I guess it all depends on how tough your butt is!
If I tried Gee-bee's ride I'd need a butt transplant. Just thinking about it makes me want to reach for the Advil. Then again, these days 200 miles is a long day for me on any motorcycle. You might do better. Bike shorts are a very good idea.
I bought an Alaska Leather Sheepskin Buttpad for my bike. I use it on longer rides and it helps a lot. I'll have to post up a photo. I can imagine what some would think of this, but hey - it works for me.

Ride 500-600 miles on a HM in a single day and it will become self-evident.

Ride, stop, rest, refuel, REPEAT...
Enjoy, the ergos are great, that is until you get alot of time in higher speeds, 80 and up. The seat isn't that bad, just some cany asses around here!! LOL
JCIII
Oh, get online and map out a "NO SLAB" route. That way you can get intimate with you new HYM.

:-) My adivce to him was NO TICKETS...one of the first things I noticed is that the hyper will do 90+ effortlessly on the highway. That and 100 miles per tank is a "safe" area to refuel. Although, stopping every 100 miles for a few minutes is a good idea anyhow.
Other than that...some rest, stopping for some breaks and yes...bicycle shorts would be a good idea for a long straight ride.
Personally, I find the Hyper's seat to be extremely comfortable.
I think my bike will be in good hands...it's going to be sad...very sad to see the bike ride off but Mike seems like a cool guy so that does make me feel well.

i will do my best to bring a camera and give a full ride report. I just did 100+ mile run today on the GT and a combination of friends' 998fe and a 999s. Look forward to the HYM's ergos. I'm in no rush and i plan to "head for the hillls" via VA + NC. Probably will stop over in Durham and have dinner at my friends restaurant -Magnolia Grill. Then maybe show off a bit @ bike week in Myrtle Beach.
caio,
mike
