what temps should I expect?

Sitting in traffic, I nearly reached 250 degrees. I am used to other bikes kicking on the cooling fan at 220 or so. I am not used to ever riding above 200 with steady movement.

What about the track? Where will it get up to? And what is safe for sitting in traffic? This is my first air cooled motor, so I want to know how to take care of it.

I'm also curious about the temperature since the HM is also my first air cooled bike.

Anyone?

I have seen around 290 sitting in traffic, believe the hot warning light comes on in the low/mid 300's. If you now want to know where it is then as you flick to oil temp and it shows low at startup this same will flash hot once you reach the max. oil temp, don't need to flick the switch for it, will show up all by itselve

Freezer at 220 the fan's kick on to cool the water ( on your watercooled ride) since water has a lower boiling point, it's a little diffrent on oil temps.

At 85 degrees on a hard fast paced ride I have seen the bike hit 220 degrees. And when I slowed back down it dropped to just over 200. The extra speed helps keep the bike cool, so i would not worry about taking it on the track. The hottest I have seen my bike was in stop and go traffic and was 238 degrees. I do not have a cat exhaust, so that may make a difference. A person could install a 120 mm fan on the back side of their oil cooler if they were concerned.

Hey Guido that DP cam ECU really broadened the power and solved the lean conditions I was seeing. That was money well spent.

250 degrees riding through traffic on a hot day is perfectly normal for an oil/air cooled engine.

Just like Guido mentioned; over the 300 hundreds... you might want to pull over.

Yesterday was the first time I viewed the TEMP reading while riding. It was a hot day, but not very hot. In traffic it hit 286, and while riding it stayed at around 225. It still has the "break-in" oil in it. I would hope that the full synthetic will lower these temps a little.

I have ridden pretty hard and seen temps around 250*+. I am running Motorex 10-50 synthetic. No performance problems and it ran like a champ.

So what are the head temps getting to on this rig when the temp guage is showing 250*?

Out!

Mine stays around 180-195 during backroad blitzing and drones on the superslab. Around town in stop and go, it goes up to around 220.
