ECU warning!

I just installed a ECU I bought on Ebay. I had the dealer install and it was a bad one. I'm screwed because I didn't buy through the dealer (no warranty)

What was wrong with it and how could you tell?
Was it a used one (from an individual who didn't need it or from an e-bay store?)
Which variant (termi 2:1 or cams)?
Questions, questions...

Cheers,
Mike

bad slipon ECU

I have a bad slipon ECU if anyone wants to buy it? My dealer didn't seem very interested in replacing it because I bought it through another dealer. So I ended up buying a used one in from this site. If I was a scumbag I would throw it on ebay.
It sucks because not only are you out the money for the ECU but the labor from the dealer to install and reset. I'm going to try and have the slipon ECU replaced when I install the full termi ECU.
The bad Slipon ECU seemed to not be controling the flapper valve correctly. It was leaving it closed at all rpm. When you turned on the ignition you could hear the valve close but it would never open. This was choking the motor. What I did was disconnect the electric connection from the exhaust valve and turn(with a wrench) the big nut on the valve making it open. You can hear the difference at idle or feel the air from the tail pipe to make shure it's open. This restored power to normal levels. The draw back is the check engine light is always on. You could try this it's free.

I have a used full termi ECU that I will install when the TechnoResearch tool comes. The dealer charged me an hour labor to install and reset the last one so f**k that. Thats half the price of the tool.

BTW. enjoy the hoodie

I think your fracked but you may be able to dispute it through fleabay, if you used paypal you may be able to file a dispute there as well. If you payed with a CC you may be able to get the money refunded through the card.

Regardless I would dispute it and get a letter from the dealer, that at least proves an authorized trained individual was the one that made the discovery and also point out that bad ECU's are being sold on fleabay.

Good luck.

Definitely a good idea to buy from a dealer. I just sent a replacement ECU to a customer who had a bad HYM cam kit ECU. He called and told me his was bad, I sent him a new one then his arrived and I'll take care of it. Easy.

Anthony,
Same question: how did you/he know it was 'bad'?
Cheers,
Mike
