HyperS rider down So. of San Francisco

Sorry to see this:

Hope everything turns out OK. Sounds like a very proficient rider.

I just got that dreaded call.

Best friend and riding buddy went down on Hwy 1 between S.F. and Santa Cruz at about 5:20 this p.m.

I have a connection with fire in S.C., and got some initial details.

First responder said he was traveling south bound at about 40mph when a vehicle turned left in front of him (if you're heading North on Hwy 1 and turn left, don't you go 'splash'?). He apparently clipped the vehicle and was thrown from the bike ending up in a roadside ditch. Good news is they said it was a bitch to cut off his Alpinestars full leather suit. That means he was ATGATT. Bad news is they cut it off to access a compound tib/fib.

He got the really expensive helo ride over to Stanford medical where he sits now getting the full check out. They are spending some time on upper body x-rays to make sure all is well. There was apparently no loss of consciousness.

We've been through this before. He's broken his back, his neck, his lower arm, his shoulder, his tib/fib (I don't know yet if this break is on the 'good' leg or the 'bad') and even his face (yes, his FACE!). He heals better than anyone I know, but it still hurts to hear it happened again.

Well, I'm off to put my kids to bed and await the next phone call. Fingers crossed.

Oh yeah, and I'm about 95% sure he was riding his practically virgin Ducati Hypermotard S. That's gotta suck too.

That sucks. Hope the rider has a quick recovery. Tourist season is upon us, be careful out there!
