oil changing schedule poll ...
ciao a tutti -
i have just passed 3K on my hypertard, and am debating to change the oil, oil filter and inspect/clean the oil pre-filter now @ 3K, or wait until 3.5K, 5K or 7.5K as recommended by ducati in the owners manual.
all my other vehicles get oil/filter done @ 3K, using full synthetic.
my gut tells me it is a cheap insurance to change the oil @ 3K ... but i want to know what you other hypertard owners are doing/planning to do for oil change schedule.
grazie,
johnc

I change mine every 3-4 months or 3000 miles, whichever comes first. Usually don't hit the mileage so it's every 3-4 months. I do that with both of my bikes and my car.

Oil
I use motorex 10/40 full syn , I get a seven gallon drum from parts unlimited , this size saves about 25 % than buying the 1 gallon containers...
Had my Turbo 997 changed yesterday, it's a qt dry sump motor, there is no dipstick, It's electronic type and advises you when your a qt low
First oil change per the book is 12k , I have 8 k and that it was time
249.00 was the cost from the local dealer
Porsche only uses Mobil 0/40 w in there Cars

So many schools of thought.. For instance my '06 Porsche 997s calls for 15K mile interval (THAT'S 15K), Mobile1 0W-40! My Mercedes Sprinter Van calls for ever 10K mile also 0W-40. But I do my bikes very 3K miles regardless. Like you say and my dad told me a long time ago, "it's cheap insurance".

I don't put much miles on my vehicles as I don't use them to commut. That said the manufactures have ridiculous specs, for example the BMW car first oil change at 15k does not make sense. Now all engines "consumes" oil a bit after many miles, what do they expect adjusting level without changing oil, bad!
3K is a good rule for all vehicles that you love.
Now oil change is an excuse for more like the Nichols flywheel
See no cheap oil change

I do my bikes every 2000 miles simply because it is easy for me to remember in my advanced old age and regardless of how many bikes I have been riding. Everytime the odo hits an even thousand miles I change. Even Homer Simpson can do that math.
I didn't vote because the lowest mileage wasn't listed as "3000 miles or less"

I am in the change it often camp...
I don't want to wait 10,000k and then find a ton of junk in burnt out oil... I'm doing it every 3,000k.
I had the guys at the shop do it at 1,000k and again at 3,000k - and they gave me grief for it... so now I do it myself.
