Diameter of stock bars?
I need a mount and wasn't shure of the stock bars diameter. Does anyone know the size.

The bars taper down to 7/8ths at the center clamp. I've got a 1 1/8th Tech-Mount bracket for my GPS, and had to line it with rubber tape to get it to mount tightly next to the center clamp. If you're planning on mounting it at the center clamp I'd go with a 7/8th mount. My mount just started slipping this weekend after a few weeks, and I had to pull it off, put a couple of strips of double-sided foam tape on the clamp, and remount it. If it doesn't stay put this time I'm going to order a 7/8th mount.

What are you talking about? No, they don't. The entire center portion of the handlebar is exactly 1-1/8", and the ends are 7/8". Just like every standard MX handlebar out there.
This is the Hypermotard forum, right?

Same deal, I have Tech mount to the left side of the bar clamp and I lined it with some rubber and it clamped down tight. It hasn't moved yet. They Tech Mount is a nice system for accessories like my radar detector.

Okay, you guys are talking about "accessory" mounting, which could have been made a little more clear in the first post.
Here's the problem. The stock, Ducati, el Cheapo handlebar is indeed 1-1/8" in the CENTER, where the actual handlebar mount is located. But as soon as you get off the exact bar mounting area, the bar immediately starts to taper down SLIGHTLY. I'm talking about half a millimeter or so.
So yes, if you use a 1-1/8" accessory mounting clamp, it won't be perfectly tight, and you'll have to shim it.
But it's nowhere NEAR 7/8" at that point, so a 7/8" mounting clamp won't even come close to fitting.
There is another alternative, though. On my Pro Taper bar, the center portion of the bar is a consistent 1-1/8" all the way across until it starts to bend upward. So on either side of the bar mounting clamp, you have a couple of inches of actual 1-1/8" diameter bar to work with, where a 1-1/8" clamp will fit perfectly.
So you could just buy a REAL handlebar...

I put on the 1 1/8" Zeta bar and the light and ingition control blocks fit loose on the bar and move, most likely because I had to grind off the little tabs that fit them onto the bar. Gonna need to line it with something as well.

I could have been more clear. I need a mount for a radar detector and want to use it for a video camera as well.

Another thing you could do would be to take your top clamp off, and cut the two cross-bar sections off it. Then, you'd effectively have two separate clamps (like most other bar clamp designs), and that would leave the center section of the bar exposed, so you could mount your accessory clamp right dead center on the bar. It would fit better that way....
Somebody around here was going to design a replacement top clamp that actually had a flat surface with threaded holes, to be used as a universal accessory mount. I wonder what ever happened to that idea...???

You want it mounted off to the side, or you can't see the instrument cluster. It actually looks pretty clean when installed. Here is a link to a post I made.
