Perfect time to run out of gas . . .

My low fuel light came on this morning, rode to lunch, rode to a kid's game, then went to get gas. Fuel light came on at a depressing 69 miles on the trip meter. I THINK the count down meter was to 26 miles when I rode up to the gas pump, in nuetral, side stand down, reached for the key, and the engine sputtered & died. I don't think I've ever run out of gas at the pump before.

I put 3.1 gallons (on a conservative fill, as I was riding home 1/4 mile away & don't like to leave the bike "overfull" of gas).

Probably could have fit another 1.5 tenths in the tank were I to try.

The bike has gotten considerably worse mileage since I put the termi slipons on, I think the chip even with the engine reset by the dealer runs a bit rich.

My gas light does not come on until 95-100 miles. I got to the pumps with 107 miles on the trip and 2.75 gallons of gas filled it. I'm running the full termi and by no means drive conservative. I'm on the gas at every light and cruise the highway at 80 mph. Its funny how some seem to get way better mileage then others. Or at least the low fuel light doesn't come on. I can see 10 miles + or - but for some to be getting a low fuel light at 60+ miles is strange.

I assume this is post-tripmeter-fix?

I am averaging 42 mpg on most rides. My fuel light comes on at 2.3 gallons. I have a mostly stock bike, but I am adding the cam ECU tomorrow and I will have to see how this affects my fuel economy on the ride back from San Jose. There is an adjustable trim/boost % fuel mapping with the slip-on's ECU. It can be adjusted with the Techoresearch VSDT software/interface. Maybe you can get the dealer to trim the fuel output? Dukepilot is going to help me adjust things and I think I am going to go for fuel savings over power, so I think 2-3% CO is my goal if he lets me.

I've been mostly commuting lately. About an 18 mile one-way trip to work on SoCal freeways. I ride at about 80mph(a hair above the flow). My fuel light comes on right at about 80 miles, I've made it to 83 on occasion. I make sure I'm pulling into a station before I hit 100. - Full Termi 2:1, ECU and adjusted TPS. Yesterday, I filled up at my local station and paid $4.23 a gallon - but, it was 75 degrees, a clear blue sky, there were palm trees and I could see the mighty Pacific Ocean. It wasn't all bad...

How much fuel is supposed to be in the tank once the light come on? Mine comes on at 100 miles and I usually put in around 2.5 - 2.7 gallons at the first gas station I see. I am curious to find out how much further I can go before running out.

My bike is set-up the same way; however, my reserve light consistently comes on between 72 and 74 miles according to both the main odometer and post-fix trip meter. The twisty roads on which I ride easily explains the diff (80 vs 73) compared to the SoCal freeways that acesanugal rides.

I asked the dealer the other day and was told it's "about" 20 miles left once the fuel light goes on. I wouldn't push it though. Ride easy and get gas asap.
