Poor fit of DP CF tank cover?

Dear HM'ers,

Just wondering if your CF tank cover from DP is like mine ...

When installed the cover is not a tight fit onto the side panels, it is actually raised on the lower portion so leaning forward or putting pressure at the base of the CF cover results in a small buckling sound and the cover touching the edge of the side panels. Over some 200 miles this has resulted in some paint scratching that is now visible as white marks on the side panels.

Has anyone else experienced this? It would have been better if the curvature of the cover was such that it would be slightly flexed (opened in curvature) as it is screw down, giving a tight fit and hence there would be very little movement between the cover and the side panels.

Any suggestions? Can someone recommend a good clear / thick protection tape I can put on the edge of the side panels or something?

Not sure about the protection now that you have the cover but if you can send it back and buy one from Shift Tech. Everyone on here raves about the Shift Tech stuff. Not sure why anyone would by the DP stuff anymore with all the bad reviews on this board. Not just the HM stuff but everything sounds like the quality is crap.......Just my 2 cents

without seeing a photo of how the tank cover is not fitting, it is difficult to troubleshoot ... but, the side tank covers do have a fair amount of adjustability in them, so you might be able to get a better fit by loosening up the two bolts on each cover (one at back of cover, and one on the lower edge), and adjusting the position of the side cover accordingly.

hope you get it resolved ... the DP carbon tank cover i saw on jim's hypertard this sat looked like it fit very well indeed, so i believe there is hope for your installation.

a presto,
johnc

Hate to hear it, mine is perfect except for the cheap "edging" that came with it. A bit of black door trim from autozone fixed it. It actually fits better than the picture suggests with the comfort seat.

Here's a pic (hopefully)

Lets see if this will work uploading will work. It was hard to capture the white lines with the camera but here's two of them.

Thanks for the suggestions, XPEL looks interesting for my car too! I might also try to thicken the lower latch of the tank cover with a rubber fitting or just wrapping tape around it so as to pull down the end of the cover.

Next fitting project will be to try to close the gap between the racing seat and the tank, maybe adjusting the fit of the side panel will help hide the bolt that can be seen in the picture.

you should be able to adjust the tank side panels to fit a little better with the tank cover.

on the racing seat to tank fit adjustment, there are two bolts that hold the seat bracket to the sub frame .... loosen these two bolts, and slide the bracket forward/backward to get better fit for seat to tank.

it's all in the details baby

J-

I tried that on the bike and the left side fit perfect, fit around the tank perfect, but was off about 1/2 -3/4 of a inch on the right. I am curious if I had a uneven seat or something. It was very bizarre.

My wife has the DP cover on her bike, and it fit perfectly. But then again, who knows which supplier yours came from.

If I'm not mistaken, Shift-Tech doesn't make their own tank covers. Some of the stuff they sell is actually DP carbon. They just check it for quality before they sell it to us, unlike Ducati...

Guido can correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Gave up ...

Thanks for the suggestions and info, I decided not to waste too much time with this ... did the best I could with adjusting the seats and panels (does not fix it or do muc to the gap with the seat & tank), put two-sided sticky foam pads under the tab that latches the tank. Fit is tighter now, black marker pen to the white marks and lets see. If the white marks come out again, I can use the pen again

Its been a while since my last duc but it reminds of the phrase "Ducati: Making mechanics out of riders since 1946".
