My girlfriend and I are taking my Harley up to Big Sur and the S.F. area next weekend. I definetly want to see Alices. What are some of the other roads that we want to ride? Is it the 32 or the 36 that connects HWY 1 to Interstate 5 about 2 hours north of S.F.? If any of you Hyper riders get a thumbs up from a Harley rider a week from tomorrow dont go into shock, it will just be me. Ill have the Harley with the Ducati sticker on the rear fender. Maybe Ill see some of you at Alices. Thanks.

There are so many great places to ride... depends on how much time you have. Here is a good information resource -

Alice's is at the intersection of Hwy 35 and 84. To get there from Big Sur, you can come up on Hwy 1 into Santa Cruz, then inland on Hwy 9 to Hwy 35 going north. There are other scenic routes you can take, like Hwy 1 north to Pescadero then inland to Pescadero Road to east on Hwy 84 to Alices. The Santa Cruz Mountains also contain some roads we refer to as "goat trails." These are tight 1-2 lane roads that are bumpy with gravel strewn corners. Probably not ideal for a harley packing 2.
Once you get to Alices, you can hang out and have breakfast/lunch. From there, you can ride back up the coast to San Franciso through Half Moon Bay. Ride over the Golden Gate Bridge and hit some of the Marin County roads over to Tomales/Bodega Bay. If that's not enough riding, you can continue north up the coast to Ft. Bragg then inland on Hwy 20 to 101.
Alternatively, from Alice's you can head east through the Delta towards Jackson, take Hwy 88 over the Sierras and return south on Hwy 395. Some of the Sierra passes might not be open yet so check ahead.
The Hwy 36 ride is a great ride. Hwy 36 and 101 intersect just south of Fortuna. Its a pretty long distance from SF. It hits I-5 at Red Bluff, then its a long slab ride on I-5. Might be a good ride if you have more than a couple of days.
Anyway, get yourself a good map and look for the squiggly roads and have fun!
