Most Jap bikes say 15,000 to 24,000 miles depending on the bike. Ducs are 7500.
What I decided is that I will do the check up's that I have to to keep the warranty up. That's only 2 visits to the dealer actually. The initial oil change/check over, and the one year/7500 mi service. The next service is due at 2 yr/15000 mi but the warranty is up at 2 years so if you have made it that long you should be able to do it all yourself. After that I will do them all myself.
From what I've seen so far Ducati has alot better warranty than all of the Jap companys, but they also need it more often.

There's nothing that says a dealer
must perform that service work in order for you to retain your warranty. Anyone can do it for you -- or you can do it yourself. You merely have to be able to prove it was done if/when your bike is taken in for warranty work, should the dealer actually question whether the work was done. That initial service, which usually amounts to nothing more than an oil and filter change on any bike, for which you're generally charged an arm and a leg (plus a testicle or two), is the biggest scam in motorcycling.
