exhaust & ecu install
So I bought a Leo Vince system and cat elim pipe. I also got an ecu from Shift-Tech off e-bay (thanks) I already have the airbox lid modded. I want to put this stuff on and then ride up to my dealer and have them do the tps reset and tune, but my local dealer said I can put the exhaust on it but don't do the ECU myself. They want me to pay them $75/hr to do it. They are claiming the warranty issue. I called the other closest dealer (2 1/2 hrs away) and they said the same thing. Now the problem is the local dealer can't get me in for a week and a half. My question is: Do I just wait, put the exhaust on right before I take it up in a week in a half. Or put the exhaust and ecu on myself and ride it until the dealer can reset the tps and tune. I know the whole warranty issue but hey, I've already put a flywheel on myself so I'm sure I probably don't have a warranty left anyway. I just don't know if I can ride with stock exhaust for another week! Especially since I have Leo cans sitting here staring at me.

How can there be a warranty issue if you use a DP ecu? Regardless of who sets it?... It can always be reset and programmed.

It's a way for them to hijack you into paying the $75/hr service rate. I think in organized crime it's called extortion. "If you don't pay us for our services we will not protect you." Ducati is Italian after all. If you work on the bike yourself you will wake up with a duck head in your bed.

I know that McDonald' is not allowing customers to insert the straw into their soft drink lids now either. I guess we are all too dumb to do it ourselves.
Put the shit on pull up and get the TPS reset and ride away with your cash and middle finger in the air.
Dealers make all kinds of money on warranty work. If they want your future business it is in their best interest to help you out. I have never had a warranty issue on a car or bike, or much as for that fact.
Out!

To install the ECU even at $75 per Hour should only cost you about $1.50 since it takes about 5 minutes to install. Its more work to take the side panel off. Its plug and play. The only issue I could forsee if you install it yourself is if it is a bad ECU they might not cover it unless they put it in. There was a batch of bad ones and maybe Shift can confirm it is not if he has used it already and I don't think he would sell you a bad one. Anyway I would say do it yourself and then go get the TPS reset. Thats what I did anyway.

I will have to ask Shift. If I remember he said it was new and never plugged in. That's all that's holding me back. The whole bad batch of ecu's.

If you decide to plug your new ECU in yourself, you might want to first disconnect the positive battery cable first, then remove the stock ECU and plug in your new one. Reconnect the battery cable, turn the ignition on and reset your clock and reset the ECU mode to USA. Disconnecting the battery is just a precaution to prevent something bad happening to your new ECU.

It cost me $110 for a new DP mirror (the ones with LED turnsignals builtin) to discover that if a DP electrical part is defective it will not be covered under ANY warranty unless installed by the dealer.
I would not install any DP electrical components (or for that matter, any parts that I could not stand to buy again) myself. I did put in my own ECU and am glad it seems to be ok.
