Gas Tank Vent Assembly?

I installed my DNA filter and did the air box mod tonight. When I was removing the hose for the green gas tank vent the assembly came apart as shown in the picture. Can anyone tell me how it goes back together, since it was spring loaded I don't know for sure. I believe it goes together as shown in the photo, with the plastic spring loaded valve in the center of the orange diaphragm going into the white plastic base with 3 small holes.

Can anyone help me out? Maybe post a picture or the diagram from the service manual. Thanks!

Out!

I checked the service manual and they don't show a detailed breakdown of that particular part.

Well, It's a one-way valve is it not? So....assemble it so that when you put a vacum to the spigot the valve opens and if you try to blow through it the valve should be closed...Me thinks that is correct.

Possibly, but maybe not! There are actually four ways to assemble this and it goes together each way.

I think the valve is meant to release when the fuel level and pressure inside the tank increase (like a full tank sitting in the sun) and the pressure needs to bleed off through the vent. Hence the need for the evap canister, which is not on my bike.

Anyway, I think I am going to asseble it the way I have it in the photo and try it to see what happens. I will try and fill it with fuel and set it in the sun and that should tell me if it is working.

Otherwise, I am gonna have my dealer tech pull theirs from the demo they have and check it out.

Out!

Post what ya came up with.

I think you are correct in your assumption of how it should go together.

Well here is what I did tonight and I think it is right. When installed correctly, this valve is actually a two way valve. I believe it not only allows the tank to vent when overfilled or expanding in the heat, but to allow the tank to breathe so it doesn't collapse under the suction from the fuel pump. Like a dirt bike hose I guess.

The picture shows the right order for the pieces. You assemble them by picking the orange diaphragm and set it on the white base with the sides showing in the upward position. Then se the spring on top of the orange diaphragm piece and then set the green top on and compress them together. There is a small tab on the white base piece that needs to fit into the green top. They will snap together when properly aligned.

Anyway, it seems a bit touchy or mine is just not as tight of fit. It came loose twice more when attaching the vent hose and clamp.

Out!

I would think it should be an interference fit and not come apart so easily, like when out on a ride??

Might be a good idea to get a backup just in case.

Does the ECU sense when this thing is not working? I see no wiring to it and like others I have taken the scrubber cannister off without any ECU code showing up.

Did the green gasket stay glued the whole time to the tank? Mine came loose and I am trying to figure out what to glue it back with??? Maybe Grip Glue as that is made for rubber to metal. I tried some quik JB WEld and it only stuck to the metal

Disregard the above. I didn't realize it alll snapped together

Yeah no glue. Just snap it together. Any sideways pressure and it will dislodge again. Really a shitty design.
