When to do performance mods...
So quick question... when do you guys start adding the pipes, cams, ecu's, airbox lids, filters, etc. I mean do any of you wait at least until the 600 mile break in is over so that you have something to compare the new system to? Kinda like a "before/after" scenario? Or is it even before you even have 20 miles on it... ie, "Must. Get. OEM. Pipe. Off. Now." Is there a benefit either way? I've done it both ways, but without rhyme or reason at times...
Thanks,
b

My full Termi and ECU were installed the day I brought the thing home. It had 8 miles on it. Do mods now.

I'd say do your mods off the showroom floor too but if you'll be doing any dyno time your baseline numbers will be more realistic after a proper break-in.

If it is just a matter of installing pipes and a re-map, I would do it immediately. If you are looking at more hard parts, where you are tearing into the engine, I would feel safer getting a few miles under my belt just to weed out any bugs and warranty issues. Just personal preference, really. I would add that much of my willingness to mod would depend on my relationship with my dealer, and their willingness to perform warranty service on a modded bike.

Nothing happens if you do it before taking the bike home...
But I prefered to do it later so I could compare

spend your money on track time. When you run out of power on the track then do the performance mods.

I did it all before I picked up the bike - 2-1-2 termis, PC3, DNA filter,etc..
It's probably better to ride it stock for a bit and then do some mods, that way you will be more excited and notice the difference. I've never ridden the bike stock so I have no idea what thats like.
I always mod the hell out of all my bikes. It is my passion and hobby. It is nice though to ride it for a while and then each new mod will be an exciting deal.
