Any regrets?
I am looking at adding a bike to the stable and having my current Classic be my track bike full time.
I've been wanting a HM but am worried that the real world fun of it won't be there for long. I will use it for 20 minute rides to work a couple days per week and then for the fun weekend rides.
One thing I was surprised about with my classic is how darn uncomfortable it is on longer rides and want to check with HM owners before I get too far into the looking/buying process (cause once you really start you can't go back )

I just recently sold mine to buy a dirt bike so I could go riding with my son. Now I've got an $8000 dirt bike with supermoto kit on the way. Every day I linger here to see the fun people are having. I regret selling mine and will probably have another one in a couple of months.

There are certain contradictions or ambiguities in your mission statement...
On the one hand, one could interpret as you saying you want to go on long comfortable rides, in which case, the HM isn't going to be your preferred choice.
On the other hand, you mention 20 minute commute rides and an occasional weekend ride, but don't mention how long those weekend rides might be, what types of roads are involved and so on.
So which one is it??? Before any more meaningful input can be provided, I think you need to refine your mission statement. I think I know what it is, but I can't say for sure.

The ride to work could involve 20 minutes of freeway time, but I can cut that in half by taking roads that would be a little more fun to ride on and it would only take a little longer to get to work.
The weekend rides are up through Ramona, Julian and Palomar Mtn. I'm not planning any longer freeway rides but do want to be able to go riding for the better part of the day without being kicked in the ass at the end of teh day.
My classic, even after getting used to it, works me over pretty good. Funny thing about it is that i'm very comfortable on it during track days.

Well, I hate to say it, but it sounds like a Multistrada would be a better fit if you can stand the looks.
You really should just go test ride both and then decide; else you will never know for sure.
