Potential new Hyper owner
Hi, just signed up. I hopefully will be a new Hyper owner soon. Coming off an '06 HD Night Rod, tired of the cruiser (and Harley) thing. I want a unique, quick handling bike with personality. I'm an avid off road rider and racer and the Hyper ergos just feel so natural. I will use the bike for commuting (35 miles to work) and weekend fun rides. As little highway as possible. The fuel capacity, lack of storage, and long distance comfort is of no concern. Seems like it would fit the bill. I do all my own work on my race bikes from motors to suspension revalving. Maintanence looks withen my skill level, dealer prices for service are crazy. Plan is to trade the Night Rod. Dealer gave me a good number without seeing the bike, I will see if he comes through when I roll up on it.
I've been reading about cases of EFI leanness on Monsters related to Euro3 on several forums and have experience with this on the Harley. I'll keep the bike stock for awhile, but I'd like it to run correctly with no surging or lean symptoms. A simple Techlusion module adding a little more low end fuel made the Night Rod a new bike. I called Techlusion, they are producing a product for the Hyper that will be sold by another company, who is doing the tuning research at this time. It will work with the stock ECU and be tunable from stock to the Termi full system. They estimate June availability at $200 - $300. Until then, how do they run stock? Are there ridability problems, or are they good stock and just great modified?
Thanks in advance for setting me straight on what to expect.

Do a Search and you'll find a wealth of information. I dont think you can tune the stock ECU

Your bike should run pretty well stock. I have not complaints and have great power, no buzzieness, no surging, no hunting, no problem starting, no problem idling. Mileage should be around 40mph +/-, depends upon your wrist.
You won't regret it, it is an awesome bike!
The Rapid Bike programmer can tune the stock ECU too. I havn't heard of the Techlusion and it sounds like a less expensive option.
Out!

The topless mod is a DP lid, pipes and tuners are starting to come online, still waiting for a fueler that plugs & plays with the stock Hyper ECU that will kill the flapper valve. I found this bike more comfortable than my "A" I guess I got used to hanging on thru the wind blast, I don't miss wind wobble either. I jumped to a HM for much of your reasons. It doesn't have the top end rush, stock, but will run with better breathing, head work cams, velocity stacks. I spent hours reading the "hall of wisdom" 03 V

I felt the stock bike was fine but wanted to release the Ducati Twin so I got the Full Race Termi which is not cheap and not to everyones taste as far as looks go. It does give it a little more HP & TQ but to me the best improvement was throttle response. It also sounds like a freight train running through the canyons now......
There are some other nice exhaust setups too. If you check the numerous posts you should get some good info on the topic + there are a couple very knowledgeable fellers on here.
Oh and welcome to the fold........

Thanks guys.
I have been reading and understand the stock ECU cannot be remapped.
I actually like the look of the dual cans and if I changed exhaust it would be with a dual slip on setup. Has anyone ever modified the stock cans? Immediate exhaust mods are out as the purchase is a bit of a stretch. The way I see it is the options will only get better. The Techlusion built module will be sold under another name. This will be a new gen design with small buttons to program mixture, no pots to turn. Same size. They tell me so far the prototype works very well, sounds great.
For my type of riding the Hyper's low to mid type power seems like the ticket. The VRod motor, while pulling good off the bottom, is really happier over 4K.
Well, if it doesn't rain tonight I'll head down to the dealer and see if there serious about the trade-in value they quoted and buy the bike. If not, I'll have to sell it and wait a bit. What is a fair price for the standard Hyper now?

There have been a couple people that have modified the stock cans. That includes gutting the stock cans and cat. The can mod was viewed as less than desirable, while the cat mod was doable. Although it is possible, it is a big pain in the ass and questionable in terms of performance. I guess the cat mod at least gave some better sound. Unless you already have all the tools and are really into it, the cost would not be worth it. Think torches, welders, etc.
Out!
