Lightweight flywheel
I'm putting my Nichols flywheel on (or at least trying) and I was wondering for those that have done this mod, how do you get the side cover off? I've removed all the bolts and the slave cylinder. I've tried pulling as best I can. I've tried tapping gently with a little hammer. I've tried tapping gently with a dead blow hammer. Is there some trick to getting this bad boy off?
Maybe I could pull the little center cover and spray a bunch of ether in there and light it. Blow that sucker off! LOL! J/K.
But really, any help?

You need the left case puller. You can pick one up from desmotimes for $25. Not essential but makes the job easier.

I've heard you can use a slightly modified universal puller (you need to pull the little crankshaft cover and mount the puller there, press against the crank). I was gong to make my own by tapping a piece of aluminum plate, but just bought one from a guy on eBay who makes them instead. Worked great.

I have a universal puller and I was going to use that but I didn't know how strong the case was and how strong the threads were on those two little holes. Their shouldn't be much holding it on, but thoses holes are pretty tiny to be pulling on. My puller will line right up so I will go to the hardware store tonight and get longer case bolts to pull with.

Cover
Make sure you get every bolt out especially one knida hidden near the clutch rod.
If you tap it with a rubber/plastic hammer, it should be making a dull thud, if it's a solid sound , it's not ready to come off. If you're very careful with a dull prying tool , like a tire spoon, you can start opening up a space to begin removing.

Yeah, I found the one under the slave cylinder and the ones hidden by the sprocket area. So far working on the HM is pretty simple and straight forward. I'm used to working on Jap stuff and wheelers. I think the lack of bodywork helps alot. I was already putting a 520 chain/sprockets on, so I had alot of the stuff off anyway.

Do you need a new case gasket or is the stocker reusable?

Confucius said, "He who needs a tool but does not buy it, pays for it anyway."
He also said, "It is a poor mechanic who blames his tools."
In other words, buy the tool and know how to use it.
