GOOD NEWS!! GOOD NEWS!! for OHLINS shock owners!!

RE: (Lets talk about Frikkin' OHLINS!!!) thread by AZ_Scott

For "S" owners with Ohlins shock that have the plastic jam nut below

the metal one, you now have 2 options. Option #1 first leave it alone, and if

the shock gives you a problem, IT IS a Ducati problem, because Ducati had

Ohlins make the shock to THEIR specifications, and so it will be covered

by your warrantee, providing your in the bike's warrantee period. Option #2

Ohlins USA, is AWARE of the problem, and they want to help! if you send

them your shock, (you pay for shipping) and $20.76, cost for the aluminum

ring, part #531-01 they will do all the repair labor for free, and send you

back your shock. As a bonus, if you tell Ohlins what model Ducati you have,

your weight, your skill level, they will for $89.99, install the correct spring

rate spring for you, just like a CUSTOM made shock.

West Coast riders, send your shock to Walt Schonauer, (Ohlins sales Rep)

12301 Mills Ave. #25 Chino, CA 91710 Tel. (951) 712-9463

East Coast riders, send the shock to Ohlins USA, Inc. 703-C

Old Spartanburg Rd. Hendersonsville, NC 28792 Tel. (828) 692-4525

So now we ALL know, Alex

So if it is covered by warranty, won't Ducati replace the ring with the new alloy part from Ohlins? Or will they just put on another plastic ring?

Red face Ohhh, nothings wrong, nothing wrong.......

Ducati will warrantee the parts, or shock, if there IS a problem, remember,
MOST of us will probley not have a issue with the plastic lock ring.
If the plastic ring gets damaged, Ducati will most likely replace it
with another plastic ring, as they don't want to see this issue as a potential
BRAIN FART!! Alex

I wonder if this offers extends to owners outside North America. Of course I'd be happy to pay for the overseas shipping. Not sure if I could have my bike out of action for more than a week though.

Hmmmm.....

I missed this post the first time around...

I did, in fact, receive a warranty shock from Ducati. It arrived just a few days after I brought my original one in. It was a complete new shock, but it did have the same plastic ring as the OEM one, and that ring still started to distort when I adjusted the preload on it. I had to be extremely careful not to mess it up, and I still would not attempt to adjust it while it's mounted on the bike.

Now my question is, if you send your shock to these Ohlins distributors mentioned, will they in fact put an aluminum ring on it, and NOT another plastic ring? And are they aware that these newer OEM Ducati-spec Ohlins have a 52mm body on them, and not the usual 50mm they've used for the last 20 years?

I guess I can call them and find out for sure, but I was wondering if you had already asked them these questions and they knew for sure, or if they were just speculating like I did at first, when I thought I could use parts off some shocks I had in my shop...

The replacement ring will be aluminum, I'm not sure about the shock body size, just
call Walt Schonauer my Ohlins sales rep. at 951-712-9463
P.S. I hope your feeling BETTER!! Alex
