Typo or different market specs ?

Hypermotard launch at Phillip Island, Australia

http://www.dailybike.com/news/2007/d...ial-launch.asp

......All this adds up to a machine Hagi says is near unbeatable in on a twisty road, and infectous in the fun factor. Thats a lot of fun with the 17 litre tank giving safe range of around 200km.

As the title says, I wonder if this is a typo, or do some markets get a larger gas tank than we do (12.4 l, according to Ducati.com)?

I'm OK with the smaller tank, but I know this was a sore point with some people.

After doing the math on the gas mileage, I think that the 17 liter number is a typo or misquote.

4.5 gallons to go 125 miles ? I don't think so.

I think its a typo. A 17 liter tank that is good for 200KM is turning in 27mpg in US measurements. I haven't seen fuel consumption numbers for the 1100DS engine yet, but the MS1000 was tested by Motorcyclist and turned in a worst of 33mpg. The same range on the 12.4 liter tank would be 38mpg, more typical of what average for a 1100 should be.

Same figures I got, and same reasoning I used above.

"After doing the math on the gas mileage"...
