While looking at the latest pictures in the Desmoblog, I noticed that the HM s fork lower sliders were now black, instead of gold. Kawasaki and Suzuki use DLC (diamond like coating) instead of Titanium nitride.
I went to the specification page that was added in the Hypermotard news, and it has been changed to reflect that. No problem, the black looks and works well, too.
BUT, then I saw that the horsepower figures have been revised from their original figures also, dropping 5 HP down to 90 HP/66Kw from the original 95 HP/70Kw
Of course these numbers are crankshaft figures, but the Multistrada still shows 95HP -- anybody heard anything ?

MMMMM, dayum! I'll be going from roughly 140hp to 90! I will miss the power and smoothness of the transverse four but I think I can adapt, especially when crossed up on a nice sweeper forest road.

A little uncorking of the intake and exhaust along with a remapping of the fuel curve and it should be all good. I'm not concerned about it.

I really don't pay attention to any manufacturer claimed output numbers, especially crankshaft horsepower.
The 1000DS engine in the Monster S2R and the other models is good for rear wheel output in the mid to high 70's. I haven't seen any dyno figures for the 1100DS, but my semi-scientific wild-assed guess would put the rear wheel output in the low 80's, maybe mid 80's if you get a good Wednesday motor.
In any case, a pipe, PC and the airbox mods should bump the 1100DS solidly into the low 90's at the rear tire. For me, that's more than enough for an unfaired bike that will weight less than 400 pounds wet if you get rid of the coffee canister. But if you want more the 2v motor has a lot of untapped potential if you want to get into head work.

1100 Multistrada RW HP numbers ARE around 83. I realize what can be done to uncork them a bit, and if 90 HP crank quotes scared me, I wouldn't have a deposit on one.
The point was, why have the claimed numbers been revised for the Hypermotard, where they have not been changed for the Multistrada ?

Just speculating but it could be due to a smaller airbox necessitated by the smaller tank on the HM. Also, the exhaust on the HM appears to be different and possibly has less volume than the exhaust on the MS. Just a wild guess.

The latest updated information on Ducati.com says the HP claim is 95.
Just depends where you look , I guess.
Check out the accessory pages - besides the slip-on replacement, they list a 2 into 1 side mount full system. I'd like to see a picture of it mounted up on the bike !

There will be always the option of the big bore kit. We have a 1000DS here with the big bore kit and it makes 109hp on the rear wheel. So looking forward to play on the HM very soon with some mods.
