I noticed that these shots are of a base model Hypermotard; the earlier testing photos were of an S model.
The footpegs on the one in these photos appear to have a rubber covered peg, while the S had all metal pegs. I wonder if that is just a item under testing, or a difference in the 2 models.
In the first picture, was Ducati doing an "under nuclear attack" test ?

I don't know but I don't get these street bikes that are styed after moto X bikes. Damn thing is ugly! What the hell is the stupid looking thingy extending out under the headlight. Has no purpose? So what the hell is it there for. Sorry not my cup of tea. Wouldn't waste my money. Another niche market bike that will sell initally and then tank. i.e. Multistrada, sport classics, and now the Hyperretard. I think I would buy the KTM Super Duke beforethe HM but KTM missed the mark on the price. $14,000 choke, choke, It should have been more like $10,000. Now give me the new 1098 or the upcoming 848. Thats Ducati soul, heritage, and the future!!! But beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Okaaaaay....
But then you say:

So first you say that it's a stupid idea for a street bike in general, but in the same breath you state that you prefer one over the other, and it's just the price that keeps you away. Huh?

What? Where did you see that sales of Sport Classics have tanked? I just read that SC sales are quite strong...

If you want to split hairs, what exactly is the point of a bike like a 1098 as a street bike? It looks and performs more like a World Superbike, so why isn't it sold as a race bike only?
The one thing you said that makes sense is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Very true, and it appears that most people who visit this particular forum (and, I have to believe, everyone who has a deposit down) actually love the way the HM looks.
You have the right to feel how you want to feel, but why do you feel the need to come to the HM forum and tell everyone how much you hate the HM? To paraphrase: "What's your point?"

With all due respect...but how many 1098 owners are actually capable to use even 60% of the potential of the 1098 or of it's motor, suspension, brakes, etc...

It's called a front fender.

No need to apologize, that's why there are so many different bikes to choose from.

The KTM 950SM is more along the lines of the HM, it fits the intended target audience better. And it's 'only' $13,000.
Nevermind, it has one of those 'front fender things' too !

See, that's your problem right there, we drink wine and beer, that's why we love this bike
I am sure Redducc already has a down payment on that Ducati to complete his red collection, he just wanted to provoke us, it works! we get traffic on the thread!
