Personally, I wouldn't run BST's on this particular bike. Even though it's not technically a "dirt" bike, I want to have the luxury of riding it wherever I feel like it. If I want to jump over a curb, dammit I'm doing it!
I'm going for the "S", because other than a set of pipes and maybe a clutch cover, I'm leaving this thing bone stock. I can't imagine anything else I'd want to modify on the HM...

adjust suspension, maybe a little exhaust work for more music, but not much else to do. Just ride it, and ride it, and ride it.

I saw it at the San Mateo show and that was one of my first impressions, I wouldn't do much to it at all. In that sense, the bike is a money saver. Its easy to rack up 3 to 4K in mods on any other Ducati.
I would like to hear how it handles the slab. I wouldn't count the BSTs out, apparently they make a multi-spoke Supermono wheel designed for major jumping.

Yep, saw a picture of a guy taking a 60 foot jump on his BST equipped Supermono. Actually saw the wheels in person, unlike standard 5 spoke they had like 7 spokes for more strength. Needless to say they were pretty cool looking.

I have joined the Ducati owners club as well. I placed my order for the Hypermotard last Friday at TT motorcycles in Clinton Township, MI. They said that I am the 2nd in line for the standard version of the Hypermotard. They also stated that a dozen or so guys have already reserved the "S" version and a couple of them have had their money down on one for over a year now...
The dealer over there let me know that the expected delivery date will be between May and August but he hinted that it will more than likely be available in June. Maybe he has the inside scoop?
In any case, I am very excited to own this very unique bike. I am interested in a fun, comfortable bike that I can drive on the weekends, take on day long road trips and maybe develop some wheelie skills. This bike should meet those needs perfectly with only one downside for me- the gas tank.... It is just a little too small for me but it is definitely larger than any supermoto bike and smaller than most superbikes so I guess it fits the bill. This obviously was not enough of an issue to prevent me from signing the purchase agreement though. I am excited about this new Bike and I will be checking this forum daily to learn as much as I can before the first ride. My first purchase will be a full exhaust, chip and Air filter- more than likely by Termignoni and it will be installed @ the 600 mile tune up. I'll keep my fingers crossed hoping the exhaust system will be available that early.
This will be my second bike. My first one was a 1997 Yamaha YZF-600r. I bought it new and sold it 3 years later. I am really interested to see how much differently the Ducati will ride, sound, handle, etc. Will the Hypermotard be faster? I wonder...

It will make about the same power (high 80-ish at the rear wheel) but the power curve will be at least 3,000 rpm lower. Expect more torque, too, but the huge difference will be the weight. There's a decent chance the S will come in at under 400 pounds with fuel. That's almost a hundred pounds less than the YZF.
