I've got an 08 1100s with full termi and a bunch of mods. Bike has less than 1000 miles, title is clear and in hand.
I've got a baby on the way I'd let it go for a great deal. I'm in Birmingham which isn't too far from you.

Based on just a quick search of new 2011 HYM1100's, there doesn't seem to be anybody offering one below $11,500 so looks like the 2011 is a great deal.

How crazy are you on a motorcycle? You may want the extra ground clearance the 2011 offers over the 2009. Otherwise all it has is a little more power, and lighter motor I believe.

I'm not sure of the differences of the standard Tards between '09 and '11. I know the SP has a version of the Duc performance cam installed standard and the front suspension travel has been uprated. Seems there are more options for the electronics, but someone else needs to chime in. If you aren't fixed on a bottom dollar situation, I would assume you need to figure what it is you are looking from the bike. If you are looking to ride hard, track the bike and do lots of mods, the S or SP seem like the logical choice. If that's the case, the SP has the cams the S doesn't. If you are looking for something to ride to class or to dinner, find the least expensive bike you can. I have a lambretta and a PS200 that work nice as an urban commuters.

To answer a few questions...
I'm not 'crazy' on a bike, and not looking for a track/stunt bike. I want something to ride around town, maybe do the odd 200 mile trip. The S/SP version would be nice, but definately not a necessity. I don't plan on doing any modifications (but then again, who 'plans' on it). I think I will be happy with the standard model, I have a truck to commute to work with, the bike will be strictly for pleasure (after work & weekends), I would be extremely surprised if it ever saw a track.
Willie, you are correct, I am not fixed on the bottom dollar, if the 2011 is worth $1000 more than the 2011, I'll go for it. From what I've read there are slight suspension changes, new fuel injection system, a bit lighter, 5 more HP.

If you aren't going to be riding the snot out of your bike and don't see yourself ever getting there, then I think the color and expenditure become more of a factor. Lightness translates to agility and performance. There are few who can extract this from a bike. The standard Tard seems like a slow sales mover because most everyone wants the Holy Grail. If you plan to purchase and hang on to your bike for a good while, I'd purchase a standard bike. If you are uncertain how long you'll keep it, re-sale would be one of my concerns. Anything will sell if the price is right, but if you aren't anticipating having to fire-sale your bike, I'd think hard about picking up something that's more desirable to a broader audience down the road. Once you've decided your direction, then beat everyone up on price. All bikes are nothing but metal and composite. Ducati is crating them up as we speak and will continue to do so. Figure out what you want and then get on the computer, do a dealer search and start pounding the phone. Ducati requires its dealers take the not so desirable bikes to get the desirable ones. Big dealers normally have a better selection of base bikes and are usually more willing to move them so they can replenish their stock of desirable models. There's a lot of guys standing in showrooms this time of the year wishing the phone would ring.

Very well put Willie b !!! I agree completely . I would have loved an 1100 s but the extra $5500 could not be justified. I'm just doing a few mods to my 796 ( like exhaust , dyno tune and intake ) and done !! I'll save the crazy stuff for the CR250

well i may get flammed here, but its a forum hey! so the evo or evo sp has the same mtr (diff from the 08-09 bike) it has around 7 rwhp more, mtr spins up quite a bit faster too, is lighter) does feel diff to ride..its the reason i waited 6 months to get one, but thats me i was looking for HP ... as for a 200 mile ride, for me i cant think of a worse bike to ride long distance on esp if roads are mainy straight and speed is 60 mph plus..the wind blast sux..your head will de-tach from your shoulders riding 80 mph plus ona staright road (as there is no-where to hide) i use my bike for short blasts, i actually tow it to the bendy bits and then ride from there....anyway just my opinion..but if HP is not your goal, i would just look for a killer deal on the older model

I have a DP comfort seat & a Fabri flyscreen on my '08 1100-S and wear a very light, very aerodynamic carbon fiber helmet. I have run full tank fulls of highway travel (About 85 miles) with no problem (Seat is still a little rough!).
But it's like the difference between the 796 and the 1100. Neither are HP bikes. That's why I've also got an S4RS and an Aprilia Factory.

Right now, the plan is to keep the Hyper for a long time. Within the next year or two, I would also like to add a DR650, and a 'touring' bike (maybe a V-Strom?) to cover all the bases.
Looks like the consensus is to go with the '11 EVO, I plan on making a trip to the dealerships to do some negotiating and see what kind of a deal I can work out.
