I've been thinking about ordering one (mostly for looks and sound) and debating whether I want to have the ECU re-mapped for that.

The stock ecu reflash is a MUST !!! Corrects so many issues with low end chugging and more pull all the way through. Also the o2's are turned off so its a full open loop system. Contact Dave or Jon at redline performance . Improves stock 796 a whole lot !!!

LV cat delete is one of the best mods. First thing I ever did on my 796. It takes off like 10 pounds off the the bike and gives what feels like a little more power. You will have some increased backfire with this for sure unless you run the dp ecu or remap. If you have the termi pipes with this it sounds fucking amazing. I would do this before any exhaust system because it just makes any system sound way better.

Got mine from here: LeoVince 2010-2011 Ducati Hypermotard 796 Slip-On Exhaust Link Pipe

But does it improve the lame stock sound if I keep the stock cans?

It did to me .. best part is it's a pretty cheap mod, saves weight and you still need to do the cat delete to get the best sound out of aftermarket mufflers ...YMMV though

Now that the bike has some miles on it the sound is deeper than in the video
