how many of you think your hypie's rear hug is useless?

I rode back from wet roads, found my hypie was dirty at rear shock and on top the hug itself. The hug did not do its job stopping mud and water.
I am using the hug like this Ducati Hypermotard 1100 1100S carbon fiber parts rear hugger Sales, Buy Ducati Hypermotard 1100 1100S carbon fiber parts rear hugger Products from alibaba.com

I'm not sure what you're expecting this thing to do? The bike has a fat rear tire which obviously picks up a lot of material. The lower hugger helps, but can't eliminate the spray, it just keeps the shock, swing arm pivot and engine from getting flooded as much. Maybe you could put some of those bristle things like the trucks have to eliminate the spray? I've got the Shift-Tech piece and am happy with it. I usually try not to ride the bike in the rain if possible.

I have an even smaller one on mine and it sucks. I was just working on the bike raising the hugger off the swing arm and making a sealed undertail out of sheet metal to seal off all of the open bits after ditching the stock pipes.

The hugger fender is not going to do the job in wet or muddy conditions.

I don't even have one - but it is on order. I do have a bit of old inner tube tie-wrapped to various points - sure is ugly , but it keeps muck off the shock & out of the lower shock mount. The only issue with the various shock sox is how close the 796 spring is to the exhaust - looks like not enough room to fit one without melting it. don't know 'bout the 1100's.
I have measured up to fit an ally panel under the seat area too, there is exposed wiring vulnerable to stones flicked off the tyre. Figure it might keep the rear in better shape when I fit it.
You could rivet a plate straight up off the top of the hugger to catch more spray. might look a bit tho'!
Have you seen the size of Rossi n Hayden's huggers? Hayuge!
Can't avoid the rain here.

I really don't like the idea of sox. rather, I want to show the colorful spring on the shock.
I would normally avoid rain and wet riding, but sometimes the weather just catches you.

I am looking for a bigger hugger. Ideally, it can wrap 1/4 of the wheel.

This one looks bigger. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ducati-hy...item4843eb4980. Any users?
