Sorry can't help with the part but I know well the old "whack it with a hammer" cure, as passed down from father to son over many generations way back to the dawn of time...

hi all again,
so battery is brand new and just replaced starter solenoid today.
did not replace wires yet as they are on order.
right away when i hit starter bike made loud clicking sound at starter solenoid. took me hitting button about 10 times then bike got started.
since then starts fine each time but maybe because bike is warm.
any thoughts on why it would be stopping at solenoid?

Sounds (And Acts!) like a bad ground, or shorted connection somewhere.

When replacing the wires, be sure everything from the battery to the starter is clean, tight & it wouldn't hurt to put some dielectric greese on everything before assembly.
I was having a similar intermittent problem with my starter, which I was beginning to believe was the ring antenna, but I did all of the above, replacing the wires with these: starting upgrade for Ducati motorcycles
And it stopped.

this is embarrassing to state, but here it is.
battery replaced, starter cables replaced, new starter solenoid.
still same problem.
i took the button apart that you depress to start the bike, the contacts were dirty.
i know, ridiculous at the very least but i feel better knowing that no one on here came up with that solution
anyway, bike starts right away with no issues, and i am happy to have all those parts replaced so i can feel sure that bike will start every time.

i can't believe i am still posting responses to my original issue but apparently the button issue was just pure luck that bike started.
i think i am getting close if anyone has an idea.
when i turn key to on position and check battery voltage is shows 12.3
bike just makes clicking sounds and every so often i get lucky and it just suddenly gets to the point of trying to turn over.
i hooked up to car battery and bingo, bike started right up, no issues
with bike running voltage is at 13.7
sooooo, that said, what is going on that battery is dropping to under 13?
i have the ballistic eve 2 8 cell battery

If it starts every time you put jumper cables on the bike I would assume you have a bad battery. Battery at rest 12.6, key on 12.3 is ok and 13.6-14.4 running would all be normal.
