backfire from your hyper?

I notice my 796 has bang bang from exhaust when slowing down to traffic lights. My hyper is everything stock when this happened.

Your hyper does that too? What's the problem?

small, machinegun like pops on decel --> lean mixture

big, loud pops/bangs on decel --> rich mixture.

Mine doesn't do it.

Afterfire

Backfire is a combustion out the carbs/tb's, ie "back up the intake track" and indicates a timing problem; after fire is in the exhaust, ie a combustion "after the combustion chamber." A little "popping" on hard decel/overrun, is not that uncommon and not a major concern IMHO. Big ones may indicate a problem with mixture as mentioned above.

Mostly caused by 'Cam Overlap' and bikes coming from the factory so poorly mapped, in order to meet EPA Regs.
Like I said before; Anytime I buy a new bike with FI, I just figure into the cost a Power Commander, or any other ECU interface, and a custom Dyno tuned map. Try it, you'll feel the exact same way!
