bars for the track?
I'm looking for a more compact set of bars for track days. Has anyone found a set they liked?
I tried out a number of bars at a local motox place, but they didn't have what I was looking for.
Thanks,

So what are you looking for? Be a bit more specific.
Many steering bars only differ in width and sweep. If you tell me what youīre looking for I might be able to help you.
I have tried the stock bars, Pro Taper and Magura SX. The Pro Taper is narrower, a bit more racy. The Magura SX is good as well, but in general it doesnīt make that much of a difference. Iīd think installing or removing bar risers would.

What I "need" is for the bars to have less width and come back somewhat. I'm having issues getting off the bike now since the outside hand has to go up and out so far as opposed to clipons.

Stock is 800mm wide. The Magura SX is 808mm.
Pro Taper by Easton bar is 790mm, Renthal bar that KTM uses is 780mm.
Be careful with too narrow bars as you might(!) have trouble fitting the hand controls (ignition, brake, throttle, blinker, clutch...) onto those.
You can use all motocross 28.6mm bars but you have to grind the tabs on the hand controls in order to fit them onto an aftermarket bar. Donīt take the tabs off entirely, otherwise you will have to tape the bar to seat the controls. Donīt ask me how I know.
You can usually find info on width and sweep on the manufacturer websites.

Could you measure the width of the Pastrana bar please?
black = stock and gold = pro taper
Here you see how close it is. The brake master is not sitting 100% straight. If we had a slimmer hand control unit, that would be perfect.

I have the zeta sx bars. I don't think you could get bars any narrower without loosing ability to use the stock equipment.
I find that if I lower my upper body down on the tank to the inside of the turn, I can keep decent body position.
The zeta's have been the most popular bar change on this forum. Check out ... Wheeling Cycle Supply - Contact Us ask for Forest. He is great to deal with and he will set you up with a sweet zeta package with bars, armour guards, plastic hand covers, flashers, and bar slider/ends. There used to be a 10 page thread on here before it was shut down because of vendor violations. Forest wasn't trying anything sneaky, he just became that popular!

not a shot with them all together but i just set the width at 800mm. the bar according to pro taper's website is 800mm. my shot is the stock from the 796. i believe it is 800mm end-to-end but i will check w/ an actual tape when i get home if i remember (getting old to remember everything). it's the same width as the stock though.
that's the problem i had also. the brake levers were mounted right on the point where it's no longer straight so the levers are pointed up and not aligned with the grips. in addition, the brake clamps should actually have some distance from the electrical switches so the finger part of the levers are matched and not too far out. i don't think i can live compromising that.
here you can see that i can no longer have that space between the electrical and the brake clamp.

Nice shoez bra!
Yeah, I wouldnīt fuck around with the Pastrana bar. The feeling of distorted brake and clutch levers sucks.
Itīs not that easy to find a good replacement for the stock item.
