1st 2 rides on 796 hm

Thoughts at 2nd week of 796 ownership; “F##k its quick”… Weather mostly freezing & or driving winds & rain. Didn’t stop me going out & freezing my nuts off!
I am liking this bike! Light, nice riding position, snappy acceleration. Looking forward to better weather!

if you think the 796 is quick, then you should definately try the 1100

I've heard that replacing fork oil with a heavier weight and a few cc's more per side and it dramatically improves front suspension on 796 . Anyone else hear this .

Yeah I bet Drinky! I fancy a go on one. Where I am I reckon a 1100 would be wasted - too much traffic & speed cameras. Also fuel costs - I couldn't justify £5k / $8000 on a bike that was also going to drink fuel! It's equiv. of $8.50 a US gallon here... Not so bad for a sunny weekend rider I guess but commuting & longer rides & it starts to mount up. Plus I'm well used to caning underpowered classic bikes so 80 brake is plenty fun. It's pretty light too which suits the twisties (miles of em - all directions from home )

Thanx for the tip. I won't be spending ££$$ on replacing forks thats for sure!
Not seen much re 796, only on 1100 threads - all sorts of mods seem to be in use on them.
I will keep it in mind for the summer when I can explore the handling a bit more. I did think the front felt a bit vague at times but very cold damp weather & rubber + both tyres at wear limit...

I live in the Netherlands, not much better here and I think we just about got the most expensive fuel prices here( 1,70 euro's a litre). A big bike won't drink as much when riding her gently, she barely drinks more than my 749(even less than the 749 when riding her hard). I've been on british roads, 80HP should be more than plenty there, you've got really tight roads, really nice to ride on, just needs some more maintenance

You're right there. We have some very bad roads - I broke half the spokes in the back wheel of my wife's motorbike. That was a big pothole! We also have a lot of lazy drivers who don't put their fuel-caps on right. Too much diesel spilt on the roads. Nasty.
I'm guessing that US fuel costs a lot less than UK/Europe, it's been £1.40 L here for 6 months & they say it's going up again soon. A big UK fuel company closed down last week. . I'm interested to see how many MPG or Km/L I will get from the 796. Not sure I will ride it any more economically - it's just too much fun!
Need new tyres tho', very worn out Diablo Rosso's. Looking to see if any good deals come up. Will not be doing track-days so not too fussed as long as they have good wet grip & reasonable life. Open to suggestions on any! .
