More wheelie FUN...! Plus quicker accleration, smoother low rpm response. I have a 190/55 rear tire and it runs ~65 mph @ 4k rpms. Right in the meat of the power band so it will accelerate like a rocket from there. Top speed is ~133 mph, drag limited fully tucked. Could be faster without winter gear flapping in the breeze though...

Downsides: more wear on the chain, slapping against swingarm, adverse effects on suspension.
It would be better to go up 2 or 3 teeth at the rear, but that's a bit more expensive than changing the front sprocket.
@ Top Duc
I've had a 190 rear, and it really sucked. Not only did it give me LESS grip, it also turned in much slower than my current 180 rear. It did look cooler though

I haven't had any problems with the 190 tire...? I've run it right out to the edge and had some chattering under hard braking, but the slipper clutch corrected that. I have had the tire slide a bit on corner exit with WOT, but turn-in and mid-corner feel are fine. I expect the tire construction/rubber compound has more to do with the "feel" than the slight size difference... YMMV
Oh, and there is no chain slapping or adverse suspension reactions either. I tend to suspect a placebo effect from the power of suggestion may be a factor in the 14T front is "bad" reports. The facts are that a 14T front runs a slightly smaller radius and if I were running at Bonneville for a speed record, I would run as large diameter sprockets as I could fit to reduce that microscopically measured radius drag, but for any other purpose, the 14T is a no-brainer to help the big twins attitude at lower speeds...

I have a 796, love the 14t front !! Way smoother in traffic and slower speeds . No swing arm slapping noticed yet.

Properly adjusted chain = no chain slapping. True story.

I put a 44 rear instead. but the low end problem is still there below 3000 rpm

I have TWO Ducatis that so MANY people have said run like crap and have all kinds of problems at low rpms even after making the recommended changes, yet I don't seem to have any of those problems. Maybe finer throttle control is the answer...?

Supersprox 15f 43r 520 conversion on mine...love'n it. Essentially the same as dropping one tooth in the front but I wanted less sprung weight by going to a smaller chain, plus I got a cooler looking rear sprocket and gold chain....looks AND performance....yes please!

Drinks, have to disagree. I have modified and run 14 tooth front sprockets on all my 2v Ducatis. With the Hypermotard on 14/42 525 presently. I've never suffered slapping or adverse suspension effects. If fact in my part of the world this is considered a pretty standard modification. Although I do concur on the 190 rear tyre. Don't see any benefit from increasing the the diameter. 180 is optimal IMO.
