Shorten Zard TopGun

So I finally just ordered the exhaust I've wanted but have always thought the cans stick out to far beyond the bike. I've read about cutting the Termi 2-1 down and it looks great. My goal is to have the end of the tips no further than an inch past the tailight. So it seems I would have to cut about 2-3" off.
1) drill out rivets
2) cut down cans- would a Dremel be best???
3) insert tips and re-rivet
Does this seem like a good idea or am I asking to much? Thanks in advance...

A chop saw with a metal blade would be best to cut the cans. Adremel would take forever and prob not be a very straight cut. You would also need to take apart the muffler and cut down the inner core seperatly most likely.

I think you should be concerned with modifying them at all. I was about to buy the top guns for my Hyper till I read on this forum about some quality issues with them (they fell apart). I am sure you know that you will void the warranty once you modify them, but that aside if there is issues with them falling apart on their own you my have issues with that happening faster if you mess with them. Just my 2 cents

Yeah, I remember reading about them falling apart but that was a couple years back I think. I'm sure the newer batches are better. Warranty issue is a concern. Chop saw sounds better...just wanted to pick your minds for ideas/info. Haven't really made a decision yet. I just bought them online no more than 2hrs ago!! LOL

I cut all my pipes down. With the Termi's, they usually DO stick out too far, especially if you modify the tail, like most Ducati owners do! I used to use a chop saw with a fiber, metal cutting blade, but now just use a four inch side grinder, with the appropriate blade. Drill & Dremel, depending on clearance works on the interior, just take your time.

i has an issue with the top guns in 08 it was their first batch...build quality was shit and so was their customer service...wouldnt even get back ahold of me!...so i took it on myself to fix them right....my end cap almost fell off on the freeway due to the rivits were to close to the edge of the carbon can...and they did not have the metal ring around end of can like they do now.so i chopped about a 1.75 inches off the cans and re-rivited the end caps on where they should of been rivited from the first place...also used a high heat silicone as well to seal up any leaks...been over 20k and not a problem yet...i dont know how far you can chop the cans due to the cans are sphere like and are bigger at the end then the beginning of the can...but you can be safe with 2inches or less...also got some black alloy rivits and had pipes ceramic coated along with endcaps and completed with carbon heatshield/ncr decals...dont want to be reminded of the wasted $$ i spent w/zard!

man, that S4Rs looks nice. I always wanted one of those. I test rode one before I bought my hyper. I often wonder if I bought the right bike.

They are actually two completely different bikes! The S4RS is amazing, a true 130 plus HP at the rear wheel and capable of Superbike type acceleration, but still, I find myself using my Hyper much more.
Part of it is my age, 61, and my Arthritis, making the race replica positions of Superbikes extremely uncomfortable. But mostly, the Hyper reminds me of my youth and the excitement I first experienced on two wheels.
The bolt upright riding position makes situational awareness a lot easier and visibility, both your own, and being seen by others, much better. The wide bars, and 'old fashioned motorcycle' sensations are what I first fell in love with on my little single cylinder Benelli 46 years ago!
