How do you get the damn cables off?

I've been fighting my exhaust valve cable cover for a few hours now, the hex bolt head is now round. I've sprayed it with WD40, oil, any other lubricant I could think of but the screws wouldn't budge, so now I'm still left with 2 cables dangling near my rear tire. I think it should be possible to remove te cables without removing the cover, right?

I'm talking about the Exhaust flapper valve. Attached to the exhaust is a small, spring loaded assembly with cables attached to it. I've managed to remove the Valve motor, but the cables are still there.

Haha. It's always these little, unexpected things that catch you off guard and take way more time than supposed to. When I had to change my fork springs we had to remove the front fender(carbon one). Took me and the mechanic about an hour since Ducati used too much loctite and the fender was fused to the rods supporting it.

My 749 had a wellnut that joined the lower fairings together, and the wellnut was corroded. No way to reach it with a drill, so it took a bread knife and 4 hours of labor to get the nut off.

And now this. I really think Ducati just does this for fun

Those cables fought me as well, just use brute force and cut them off.

+1 on the brute force and cutting tool.

I said "screw it" and just cut them after fighting with them for way too long.

They were much easier to work with after that......

Hi Guy's,

I would suggest to drill the rounded bolt head with a 6mm drill bit (not to much, just to remove the bolt head).
It would allow you to remove the cover and then the cables. Voila.

Cut cables with snips. Pull remaining pieces out with pliers.

2 minutes, 37 seconds.....
