Don't do it unless you plan to remap. Drilling holes in an airbox isn't a mod. It's a redneck misunderstanding of basic fuel injection.

Hmmmm? You sir, seem to have the misunderstanding of modern bike fuel injection. Although drilling an airbox to enlarge the inlet area is a DIY kind of modification and can cause other issues with turbulence if done in the wrong places, the principle is the same. The "best" airbox is NO airbox or one so large that the air inside can remain at atmospheric pressure at WOT airflow. In general, the 2012 ECUs include MAP inputs and will compensate quite a wide range of airflow changes to keep the AFR around stoic in closed loop. In open loop, the AFR will generally tend to lean out a bit, but...
There is some debate on how much improvement if any, that the airbox mod, the DP, or other aftermarket airbox covers provide.

I have a Ducati Performance airbox cover that increases the size of the air inlet. If you want it PM me.

No i don't have any "misunderstanding" at all. If you allow more air to enter the intake...your map is now wrong. Simple as that. The first part of your statement about the "best is no air filter at all" is wrong too. The best airbox is an airbox as huge as a Buick...so you can draw from still air all the time at any RPM. All of the factory roadracers have as big of an airbox that will fit on the bike for this purpose. No factory roadracer runs without any airfilter at all OR with any pod type filters.

So tell me if I understand correctly , my bike is a 2012 796 ( completely stock except for 14t sprocket ) . The stock ecu will adjust itself ( fuel mixture)accordingly to the increased airflow into the intake from the different air box cover and I won't have any troubles? And what about warranty? Thanks

Its a Ducati part so it wont void warranty. I know that the ECU compensates in some ways for airflow but to richen the air fuel mixture more just take it to the dealer.

Well, the bike would benefit from remapping even if stock. Opening the box will aggravate the situation, but even bone stock the mapping is a pretty severe compromise.
I prefer a big airbox when possible. But some bikes come with such a small box from the factory for packaging reasons that pods are the best solution for good flow. For example a Hawk Gt or Gt/Sc/Hym.
For value, ease, and serviceability I'd go with an open lid like Dietrich had or an MWR panel. But the pods work well, and there are kits out there that are no where near redneck hackjobs.
Coming back full circle...get mapped first or buy a filter and map together. You will get some power and the bike will run so much better in the areas you actually use every day.

So taking all of this into consideration , bottom line is how much more hp and torque can I get from this intake mod? Started down the exhaust path but $3200 for termi slip ons with ecu and LV cat elim is just too much bread ( 1/3 price of the bike ) so I'm looking at alternatives .
