Stock airbox question

Is there any proven results that the stock air box or airbox inlet is a definate restriction? I'm at 8000' so i need all the air I can get. What are my options?

I'll have the bike on the real dyno and will post the results to see.

The bike is still stock except for this mod, the bike pulls HARDER everywhere!
is SUPER snappy, kinda like Clark Kent when he turns to Superman, well, maybe not that strong (but close!) The bike is sooo much more FUN to ride
and the front wheel will climb in 3rd gear with little effort. The intake now has a
noticeable cool GROWL that lets you something is down there!! Its a good
sound and not annoying. (but it's there!)

As long as your exhaust is STOCK the bike's closed loop ECU will adjust
your fuel map so it won't run overly lean.

I basically did the same airbox mods that (Yota) did, see his post Dec 17,
"airboxmod coupla photos" great pictures Yota, thanks!
I also used the BMC air filter, same as a K&N as far as I can tell,
I used a 2 1/8 in. hole saw for the top air box lid, and I removed the airbox
so I could drill the hole from the bottom of the airbox, (Yota uses a 1 1/2 in. and drills from the top.) I used a 1 3/4 in.
for the bottom hole, its a perfect fit as long as you modifiy the hole saw
by grinding the outside of the cutting teeth to the same size as the OD of the
hole saw body.

Note: the airbox is held in at 3 points, the REAR two points are push ins,
and NOT screws like they look like, just the single front is a small bolt.

I think this is a MUST DO!! mod for any Hyper modified or not, as this will
make your bike run the way it was ment to, a real stealth street fighter!

So after the purchase of the $65 dollar airfilter, a coupla of holes, and a couple of hours you WILL have your "Best Bang for the Buck!"

Now you know, Alex

PS: Compared to the size of the throttle body, the intake hole size of the stock airbox lid is a JOKE! really choked down.......

Old post of mine, still applies, you will gain 5 to 6hP at the rear wheel with this mod. Aloha Alex

thoughts on doing something like this with a full termi exhaust? i'm pretty positive that an airbox mod comes with the full system along with the reflash but i've been thinking about doing something to the air box as well to really open up the bike..

thoughts?

The airbox mod with an exhaust system will only help, but the stock airbox can only be "opened" up so much as described in my post above, there are newer things that you can do to your airbox such as a MWR airbox cover, which replaces the top half of the stock airbox. Aloha Alex

You can always go with the HyperStacks from the Ducshop.

Does anyone have an opinion on weather to go with the Ducshop HyperStacks or the MWR?

I am in the process of installing the MWR filter (large) lid on my airbox, and will post my findings soon.

The reason I am trying the MWR set-up is its lower cost, ($150) retail, no need to buy/make coil relocating brackets, no need to buy mini breather filters, all the stock stuff still fits, & the main reason its supposes to be quieter than the stack set-up.

The advantage to the stack set-set up is probabley more HP, WAY MORE filter surface area, & better in wet riding conditions when used with the outerwares.

The main downfall (IMHO) with the MWR lid filter is the filter surface area, even though it will let in more air (larger opening) it has 4.5 times LESS filter surface area than the stock airfilter, so I predict I might be cleaning it more often, which will be a pain in the ass.
If I find this to be true I will be changing over to the stack set -up, just for the larger filter surface area.
Aloha Alex
