What screw???

Can anyone tell me how to fix the side of the front fender to the steel support bracket behind?
Not the 4 bolts to the dash surround, the other 2 at the rear side of the fender.
The manual shows nothing and there is no thread in the steel support bracket. In my bucket of bits I have 2 bolts with steel and fabric washers and 2 rubber grommets that seem to go there but nothing has a thread to lock it down.
Any ideas?

The rubber plugs go in the outer edge of steel bracket first. Then the plastic body work goes on top of them.

u should have a pile of parts that look like this there should be a brass nut in the rubber grommet which is actually an expansion nut if there is not the rubber has rotted and the nut fell on the floor on dis-assembly and you need to run to the local ace hardware store and get two new .80 $ expansion nuts, the nylon washer is there to keep the bolt from grabbing traction on the rubber expansion nut and twisting it till it tears and fails. (possibly what happened to yours)

you assemble them like this then push it through the the plastic pannel and metal bracket till the flair on the expansion nut stops you, you then tighten the screw till it becomes snug not torqued down tight.

Now pretend the white washer with the line is your plastic and metal pieces and see how the expansion nut has expanded and will hold the two together.

hope this helps.

The black rubber with the brass threads push into the steel bracket mounted to the lower tripple clamp and stay there.

Poakone, thanks for the pics. Clearly I've picked up the wrong pieces from the bucket. I'll look for those.
Thanks again and a happy new year to all
