796 power to wheelie
all these talk about the HM raising its front wheel all the way to 3rd gear is making me try to raise the front wheel. i've never felt it ever wanting to wheelie even when i try to aggressively twist the throttle. should it? or is it the technique that i'm lacking like compressing the fork then pulling on the bars? myb it's not the character of the 796? i'm already using a 14t front sprocket.

It's the displacement your missing. Not the technique.

What do you mean when you say displacement ? I have rode dozens of first gear wheelies but only once or twice in second and it just did it on its own . I tried to do it again and could not . Couldn't afford the 1100 for the comments to come !!!

Get a SF and you'll be fine.
Honestly I have 155 hp and a 14t sprocket and even I have a little bit of a hard time lifting the wheel in 3rd. I dont see how half the power could do it. I guess rev it up to power band, sit as far back as possible, twist the accelerator and yank on it as hard as possible. If that dosnt work pop the clutch. Good luck

With a little pull on the handle bars and and the right rpm range i can pull some sweet 3rd gear wheelies, but mine is a 1100 and is slightly modded.

How did you do it? Just gave it a good amount of gas? No popping of the clutch?

This has been discussed before. Even the guys over on the multistrada forum have trouble doing it with 150 Hp. It is all about technique. Haven't we all seen those youtube videos of Indian guys doing multi mile wheelies on scooters?
Almost any bike can be wheelied and no you do not need to pop the clutch.

I was hoping you wouldn't see this thread. Ü. What got me wondering was all the talk of their HYM wheelie-ing as if it does it without any effort on the rider's part. I was wondering if the 796s has the same willingness. Wheelie-envy that's it! I'm a fairly new rider so I want to gauge if it's just me lacking the balls (technique I'm certain I'm lacking) to REALLY give it some good amount of instant gas. That's probably is the case. Would love to feel the front end come up 8" or so to start. Ü

If you give it instant throttle at around 4k rpm, in 2nd, does it lift the wheel(even slightly)?
