Disabling the exhaust valve
I have the 2-1-2 Slip-ons with the DP ECU and cat. . I was wondering if removing the exhaust valve motor would gain me anything. It doesn't give any error on the dash if I disable it so that wouldn't be much of a problem. I've searched the site a bit but couldn't find a clear answer on this.

Read it, but that doesn't make me any wiser. What benefit does it offer, besides weight. I don't think I will notice a 2kg reduction on the bike.

Did you check to see if the DP ECU is ignoring the exhaust valve? When I flashed my ECU it was not looking for it... It could be I did the full DP. Just wondering if you checked that first.

Yes, I checked it and the ECU is ignoring it(which is weird, but you won't see me complaining ). But besides saving a bit of weight it doesn't do anything when you remove it?

I take it that any aftermarket exhaust that is similar to the DP cans will not make allowances for the exhaust flapper motor, so it goes when you install the cans. If you do the mid pipe, the rest is done. You save a bunch of weight in comparison to the stock cans + the flapper motor + utter.

The purpose of the exhaust valve is for noise emissions. It only operates (closes partially) at certain rpms that are used to test for noise levels. Removing the unit lets the valve stay open or if you replace you exhaust cans, it is gone altogether.

Hmm.... Interesting. No offence, but can you tell us where you got that info?

Tom search the hyper forum its on here in alot of places. I too was curious about it, and after spending many dark November days this year searching for info. I found out that the exhaust valve only really works between 4500 and 7000 rpm roughly, it closes to make the bike pass the Epa's 80 Db(A) Noise restriction requirements which are tested if i recall properly at 5000 rpm theres a sticker somewhere on my bike that I've seen saying the db output at what rpm just don't remember where. You like I live in the best state of the 50 of em and have no real emissions or noise specs. for motorcycles (unlike say Commyfornia or NewYork) I have totally gutted my exhaust valve, rod and all out of the pipe, welded caps over the rod pivot points, purchased a Ducee servo eliminator and rid the bike 1 lb 6 oz. of needless exhaust restriction B.S.. I've also for my winter build up bought a PCV with lcd and dual map switch, 2.5lb lighter flywheel, have gutted the baffels out of my mufflers and converted them to a through flow silencer type muffler with glass wrapped perforated cores, leo-vince cat eliminator, velocity stacks and pods, adjustable ride height adjuster and tons of other little bling items.I just wish I could go ride it as I replace a piece at a time instead of full build up over winter and ride a totally different bike in the spring then the one I rode in the fall even though its the same bike. If you want to see what a 2010 evo looks like spread all over a garage in muldoon drop me a p.m. with your digits and I'd be glad to give you call and to meet up with a fellow hyper rider and swap info as well as show off my project so far. Not to mention figure out some times this summer we can go out and terrorize this little town we live in!
