Motor of Death II dying........
Well apparently it looks like my Motor of Death II is dying, with approx 8500mi (semi hard miles ) on my 2nd highly modded motor (MOD II) she's starting to use a little oil, about 10 to 12 oz of oil after each track-day. Funny thing is, I see no smoke coming out of my exhaust, & I do not have any signs of a visible oil leak.
After I broke in my MODII 8500 miles ago she dynoed out at 106.57 HP & 78.91 TQ! A SUPER HYPER!
Well early this week I did a dyno run at the same place with the same dyno operator I always use, to get a "base" HP run before I installed my new MWR large "top" airbox performance airfilter.
I figured I would have lost 2 or 3 HP for the last 8500mi. but after the dyno run came MY surprise...........she only pulled 94.20HP & 71.11!!
a loss of 12.37 HP & 7.8 TQ!!
The weird part is my bike STILL runs GREAT! good pick-up, 3rd gear wheelies, start fine, idles fine, with no funny noises. The power loss was so gradual that I barley noticed it.
So I guess now I'll have to find my missing HP, a compression check, leak down test, check the valve clearances, clean the airfilter, etc.etc.
So any guesses on what's happening to my bike? when I find out I'll announce the winner!
Like I said before, I think Ducati's are on the "delicate" side. Aloha Alex
PS: I STILL love mine.

Sorry hear your having issues. Doesn't sound too "delicate". Good luck

I wouldnŽt get all nervous now, a dyno is just a dyno and can read differently sometimes depending on outside factors.
IŽd think it could be the piston rings, because if she is consuming oil you would likely have a problem there. My 955 race bike did that with freshly coated pistons and barrels, but it had rings that werenŽt 100% new.
Keep us updated!
By the way, I hear GPM makes new big bore cylinders for just a little more boom boom boom

When the MODI blew up it was the bottom end, the crank bearings had failed, but the top-end was in good shape, so when I built the MODII, I installed ceramic crank bearings,
with a lightened/balanced race crank & rods, the top end just got new rings & a hone job.
Who is GMP? Never heard of them, do you have a websight link?
Thanks, Aloha Alex

WOW!! Now that's nice! Its what DUCATI should be making, a strong running air-cooled 4 valve engine!
I would go one step further, & make the motor a full 1200cc. Aloha Alex

Just a random thought; maybe if you stopped calling these fire-breathing engines "motors of death" you might get a little more "life" out of them.
Hope that helps. Keep up the good work.
