nail in back tire
Found a nail in my back tire. What's the best way to fix it? Plug? Patch? OR new tire? The nail itself forms a good plug, lol but obviously it has to come out. I've never plugged a motorcycle tire so I'm not sure if it would affect the tire that much. I guess it's a good thing it's getting cold and I won't be riding it anyway...

Replace it and send me the old one for the cost of shipping.
I prefer a patch on the inside, but we've run several of the standard licorice stick plugs and had them hold up well.

Mushroom style patch done from the inside. The patch will out last the tire.
Here is what a it looks like as a cross section.

use this and only this to patch it up. Don't use the licorice patch strips as they could get out of the tyre.

IŽd throw it away and buy a new one. Or maybe a take off from one of your buddies. Imo repairing a mc tyre is not worth the hassle of doing the labor and the possible hassle if the repair fails afterwards (ruined riding days, safety issues).

I've run the mushroom-style patches for many miles at very high speeds (150+) on my R1s and never had a problem.

I'm all for replacing the tire myself but in a pinch I've patched a tire and done several trackdays on them before I remembered that it had been patched. So if done properly I don't think it's a huge issue, but again if funds/circumstances allow it I replace the tire(s).

+1 I had a new tire that I had nailed, took it to a auto tire shop, they patched it from the inside, and it was good as new, did 2 track days on it, zero problems, cost me $10
But I would do a plug only in a emergency, until I could have it repaired with a patch.

I've always tossed street bike tires when they get a puncture but with mushroom or professionally done inside auto style patch I'd probably run it, especially if it had newish tread.
