Redneck Velocity Stacks?
I want velocity stacks, but I'm too cheap to buy them.
What are your thoughts on using go-kart air filters? You can buy them in a whole variety of sizes. Wouldn't they achieve the same thing, at a fraction of the cost? As long as they filter the air, it's all good, right?

The air filter is inconsequential. It is the little aluminum adapter horn (in your ducshop pic) that is "tuned" for best intake velocity/flow. Supposedly the tuning of the horn can make a significant power difference.

I think you're way too cheap and ignorant and therefore should compensate your lack of knowledge by buying a kit from Ducshop.
You'd be doing a favor for yourself and promote Ducshop great product at the same time.
But i'll help you a bit.
The filters used by Ducshop (that you pictured) are K&N RC-9160.
80mm flange btw, not 38mm.
Go ahead, buy them, and maybe upon install you'll realized you're missing few parts that justify the retail price of the kit.
You'll be missing a crankcase breather, a iddle breather and ... the stacks maybe ? does that speak to you ?
Sorry if I sound rude, I have a very hard time with people riding Ducati, with no apparent knowledge and trying to cut prices everywhere.
If you're that cheap on a great 250$ mod, good luck with your 15k maintenance.

I often wondered that as well. I am NOT rich, but I agree if you can't own the bike without dragging the Ducati name through redneck town, sell your Duc and buy a R1 like everyone else. On a hypocritical note, I do own a chinese CRG "knock off" clutch lever that I love.

Phober...I cut the plastic sleeves (El Tardo's design) out of my stock airbox and installed the correct K&N filters on top. If you're a DIY guy you can do this yourself. You will have to find a new place to mount your horn and a couple of other items, but it's not that difficult...just time consuming. There is a thread on this forum with all the details and I believe el tardo started the thread. My overall cost for parts was around $120.
It definitely made a difference and was an improvement over the stock airbox...but I can't speak for the Ducshop velocity stacks. I'm sure it might give an extra umph over this setup.

Whoa, easy guys. I have to agree with you that I don't have a lot of knowledge about Ducati's yet. I didn't even consider owning one until a great deal fell into my lap less than a month ago. I'm working very hard on gaining that knowledge. That's why I'm asking questions. No need to bash, let's all be friends.
I'm spending almost my entire savings account fixing this thing up. It's either no stacks or DIY. Don't hate, for me wanting to improvise!
Thanks, Hypermotorrad for your tip!

How are you "fixing it up" without basic knowledge? You can't shade tree a Ducati dude. Rednecks need not apply.

Who said anything about not having basic knowledge about fixing up bikes? I admit I don't know much about velicity stacks. But now I know that much more about them.
And I know not to ask questions on here without expecting to get flamed.

i used to know a girl named velicity..lol get the ducshop stacks they are properly machined to achieve the best possible power with deleting the airbox..air and fuel is a touchy situation on fuel injected bikes..therefore it also makes it easier to tune properly...hey mangler i happened to like yamahas..they are cheaper to fix when u wreck them on the track!have two of them btw...
