796 Owners...
What do you NOT like about your bike?
I've read many love stories, but would love to hear from owners of 796 regarding the above question.
My Story: recently sold bike (almost unexpectedly as I received an offer I couldn't refuse) & due to a significant life change, while wifey gone for the week. wifey now back, "why did you sell the bike?" So, now I MIGHT be in the market for a Hyper and looking at 796/1100.

nothing I dont like. Minor issues could come close were hard to find neutral, fixed but using better type oil. While getting used to it needed a fiddle with suspension/tye psi to get it right, thats pretty normal.
oh.. Bugs: I hate summer bugs, always gotta clean the f*n bugs off each ride, there's so many... so that's my 2C worth.
I did to trade down from an 1100, thought I'd miss it but didn't, 796 had better seat, more useable power(nicer to rev without going warp) only the un-adjustable front end makes for a less complicated set up..

I think the suspension is what most people complain about. The torque is not as impressive as the 1100. You could get a used 1100 at a decent price. I like my 796 but haven't pushed it yet, still breaking it in.

Never experienced difficulty finding neutral. Maybe because I greased the uniball linkage.

Nothing. It is the perfect bike for me and struck a nice balance between price and performance. I test rode a few bikes and kicked the tires on a few more and haven't regretted my decision once. I even rode a 1200cc Aprilia Dorso that was in my price range, but the 796 felt lighter and more nimble which to me was more desirable than the considerably more powerful Ape.
I bought my bike in July and have already racked up 6,000 miles. A typical riding year for me is 4-5k. I commute to work on it and have done 400 mile trips no problem. I get 150 miles before the fuel light comes on.
I guess the only downside since I have been riding so much is the 7500 mile valve adjustment cost. It seems like I am coming up on that way too fast. I did the valves myself on my old Multistrada but I'm going to let the dealer do it on my 796 until the warranty runs out.
You should take the 1100 for a test too if you can. Power is subjective and depending on the bike you had before, the 796 may not have enough grunt.

Seriously? I've had mine come on at 100 miles. Just under 120 is the most I've gotten before the light comes on (though I've only run about 5 tanks of gas through it so far!)
What don't I like about my 796? I wish it went farther on a tank of gas but that's fixable. I wish the suspension was easier to modify, even though I haven't touched it yet and likely won't for a while. It's not horrible but I got spoiled when I had my last bike set up.
Some people whine about the lack of power, but for what I use it for it's got enough. Just depends on your use and what you expect I suppose. If you think every bike should run like a superbike you won't like it.

HM 796...2010 matte black.
1. I used a tank of gas in 84 miles.
2. Rear tires last me 3400 miles.
3. All Ducati's are assembled with no grease. The Italian factory workers steal the grease and put it on their hair.
4. All Ducati parts are expensive.
5. Most Ducati owners are posers.
6. It will cost you 2k to make it fuel correctly.
7. The front forks work perfect on glass smooth roads...made of smooth glass.
On all others roads....the forks suck.
I love mine...i'm keeping it.

Dynojet PCV
Seven9Six
A Dynojet PCV fixed my 2010 1100 with Siemens FI and it was under $500. It should do the same for the 796 as it was available for the 796 first.
What did you do to yours?
Michael

New Ducati owner here so take my comments with that in mind.
1) rough idling below 4000rpm... After that it's all smile it seems. Takes a lot of getting used to. my main complain on this bike.
2) a bit clunky and rattle-ly compared to a Jap bike.
3) the suspension is not adjustable which may be useful for me since I'm quite light (130lbs only). It's a good thing everyone's complaint seems to be that it's on the soft side. However no adjustment also means less chance of a new user setting it up incorrectly (that's assuming it is already set up correctly for my weight)
4) everything is $$ on a Ducati but that's just everything Italian isn't it?
5) finding neutral but I'm hoping it'll get better after break-in. I usually overshoot to 2nd before I can find N from there but from 1st to N is very hard in my case. Oil is shell and I think the dealer is not open to using another brand with the warranty and all.
6) finally, I probably fit in the poser category. . I don't baby my bike but I doubt I'm near capable of what this bike can do.
